- Intel Z87
- 4th-Gen Intel Core i7 / i5/ i3 (LGA1150)
- DDR3 3000+(OC)/2933(OC)
Better than budget board, but enthusiastic yet 12/18/2013
-features for OC people (or wannabe)
-power, reset, clear cmos, OC buttons on the board
-an OLED displaying temperature and other readings
-nice BIOS screen with helpful description and multilingual
-enough SATA3 (six + four)
-lots of fan headers (eight in total)
-enough SATA3 cables
-board is well labeled
-3 PCIe 3.0 x16
-water proof! (but I am not going to test this feature)
-liquid cooling option (but the adapters are smaller than standard)
-cpu is powered by TWO 8pins
-onboard sound seems very good
-a hdmi pass though
-5 years warranty
-came in big box that looks deluxe
-everything including the color makes the buyer think it is comparable to those ~$400 board
-one hdmi onboard output only, no DVI, no display port (but no buyer of this board is going to use the onboard graphics)
-it looks like it has 4 yellow PCIe 3.0 x16, but the fourth is actually a PCIe 2.0
-no 3way SLI
-only 2 four pin fan header
-all SATA3 cable that it bundles with have a 90degree elbow which doesnt fit well for my case
Basically I wanted to buy a top-end 1150 cpu and bought this board without really knowing what I am getting. It seems this board has more features than those ~$150 board, but actually I may not use them. Just nice features to have. Havent ran into any issues yet. Everything seems good.
The biggest thing that misled me was the four yellow PCIe slots, but only 3 of them are PCIe x16. It doesnt really matters as these lanes always run x8 or x4 in dual or triple mode. But ASRock please dont do these disguises to make buyers think this is the same as those ~$400 boards. This is just bad business practice.
I had used Gigabyte, Asus, Intel, EVGA, MSI board before and I dont find this ASRock board to be any inferior. I just hope their customer support is good in case I need them.
