This review is from: AVG Anti-Virus 2014 - 3 PCs
It can be uninstalled, no noticeable slowdown. Can't really comment on virus clean up since I use common sense and normally never trigger a warning by my AV software.
My biggest problem with this software is the fact it has built in advertising for their other products. On the main screen you will see the usual options for protection status, AV, firewall but also for
Driver Update - if you click on it it will take you to their website where you can buy it for $39.99
Tablet Apps - shows a selection of free/paid security tools for Android tablets/phones.
Mobile Apps - exactly the same as the above
Fix Performance - very basic system optimizer (junk files etc) that also urges you to buy AVG Tune Up 2014 for $39.99 and if you don't get this will have a nice FIX PERFORMANCE warning with an orange background completely distracting from the rest of the mostly green UI. The warning never goes away even if you just used the basic optimizer.
But it gets worse! Every now and then you will see an actual pop up window above your taskbar with something like
Slow PC? Click here to fix it!
Really? Make sure 'game mode' is on because if not this will kick you back to the desktop if it appears while you're gaming. The 'show notification' feature is also simply an ad for their Premium Internet Security at $99.99 (but of course always on sale for a short while) or an ad for buying additional licenses but at least you can hide this one.
Also there is NO WAY of disabling this. You can set it to not show any notifications (update, virus found BTW not a good idea) but it will still show this ad. And no this is not the free version! This is the full retail paid version of AVG 2014 Internet Security, fully registered and activated.
Getting to their tech support is really hard and once you get to talk to them they are completely useless. They actually wanted to do remote login to 'fix' my computer because their software does not serve ads (most likely not a free service since they advertise it for 'only' $129.99 but I did not get to the point to discuss the pricing). That's strange because I find it amazing that there is some malware out there that will modify anti virus interface to show ads for the products made by the same company.
Do not waste your money on this software! If you're OK with ads you should get the AVG Free antivirus. My recommendation is Avast Free anti virus. For those having problems uninstalling this software via Control Panel just google 'AVG remover' and download it from AVG website.
