Great SSD - New Life to Older Laptop 12/23/2013
This review is from: SAMSUNG 840 EVO MZ-7TE120BW 2.5" 120GB SATA III TLC Internal Solid State Drive (SSD)
With this new series of drives Samsung is right on target with the price-performance-reliability ratio. The drive has breathed some new life into an older Toshiba Satellite Laptop with a rather mundane AMD Triple Core processor. The original drive was 320Gb running at 5400 rpm with just 8 Mb of cache. Needless to say this was no barn burner and often had many delays opening web pages that any current PC would pull up almost instantly.
The addition of this drive has had a noticeable effect on the overall speed. It is still a low end laptop, but performs much better than ever before. Programs load quicker, and web pages open much faster as well.
Given that this laptop is not used as a primary PC, this drive has helped to make it much more bearable, and as a result of the increase in speed it has saved me a lot of money because now I don't feel I have to buy a new one at this time -- all for 89ucks.

When formatted there was a bit under 112 Gb;s available and this is plenty of space to load Win 7 Pro and some apps. I have an external drive if needed, but there's still a lot of space left. All I did was set the alignment, turn off indexing and defragging and turned on Trim and it runs great, the PC is much cooler, and the battery lasts about 25 - 30 minutes longer.
Although this drive has less cache than the rest of their EVO line, I doubt I'd never notice the difference in this system. It is well made and should last for as long as I keep this laptop, couldn't ask for more, have had other Samsung drives and never had any problems.
