Overall Review:
Time Warner charged me an arm and half of a leg each month for an outdated Scientific Atlanta DVR box that had to be powered off and back on every night for it to function the next day. So I set off to build a home PVR. TWC charges $2.50/month for a CableCARD, which presents me with significant savings.
TWC also encrypts the hell out of everything and sets all of the copy-protection flags on stuff. So I'm stuck using Windows Media Center for TV viewing, recording and whatnot. I really wish I could use XBMC for it, but again -- this is a Time Warner issue, not anything wrong with the HDHomeRun Prime.
Setup was easy. I set the MAC to get a specific DHCP IP on boot in my router config, then browsed to it. And it was up. The OTA channels actually came in without calling anyone. But after about five calls to TWC, I finally got the CableCARD paired with the HDHomeRun Prime and can now get "all" of my channels. (A few don't come in, but they're ones I don't watch, so I don't care). There's also a TWC CableCARD-specific help center which knows these devices inside and out and get help you get them set up with ease.
3 Tuners. That's 3 shows at once. And I could add a second one if I wanted. This thing is great. Every cable subscriber who is capable of setting up their own HTPC with Windows Media Center should buy this and ditch their overpriced DVR. So awesome.
