- Dark Blue
This review is from: Boombug SPLW11-4 DK BLU Portable Mini Premium Speaker
I get these little things and make them available to my clients. Price is okay, and the color on this one is more "mature" than the azure blue ones that are usually sold here on NE or other similar electronics catalogs and supplier sites. (Actually the violet and metallic red ones are probably the prettiest, if you're going for color for a gift.) But for a more grown up color, this one's nice. And like the violet and red ones, they also have a black expansion membrane.
This one was shipped to me with the feet not sticking, the top and bottom fitting seemingly lopsided onto the middle membrane and the switch seems to only activate the power if pushed in hard. Either malfuntioning, poorly QC'd or previously used and refurbed or otherwise just plain messed up. Too bad, the color is nice.
I test all my units, whether purchased for myself and my company or for clients. I don't deliver DOA's to clients, unless they break them on the way home or the office, but I don't deliver any malfunctioning or broken devices if I can help it.
When I opened this puppy for testing, I immediately noticed that A, it was charged part way, but the switch takes a second and some fiddling to get it to turn on. None of the other units I have or have had, none that I bought for me, nor a client have this issue.
What makes me think I was sent a poorly QC'd or refurbed unit is that the little rubber feet didn't stick, the unit seemed crammed into the package sideways enough to make the plastic strain to contain it rather than fit properly as they usually do, and most importantly, the entire unit seemed as if it was "off." First bad one in several dozen boombugs that have gone through my shop, but still, unacceptable.
** Two stars. I gave it two stars because the egg has usually delivered me good product, and I don't know if this was packaged improperly or just damaged before it was even received by the egg. The functional products I have received thus far were ALL good... this one, was not. We'll assume it was a QC miss on a product where quantity of sales appears to mean a lot (at 12 to 30 bucks most shops, and occasionally as low as 10, you figure your profit comes from mass sales, not any one unit.)
Back to the point. I am disappointed to have gotten my first DOA/Bad unit. I was beginning to contemplate posting a review on one of the other ones with more complaints and saying the other guys were nuts. But apparently they are not. Pity.
