Slow, DLNA disconnects 01/08/2014

No fan so silent.
Software for remote access seems to work OK, could access from my laptop and android devices.
Software that comes with device only backs up data files, so cannot do a full system backup without buying a product like Acronis.
On a full gigabit network was often seeing transfer speeds as low as 0.3mps.
DLNA is pretty much unusable, if it does connect it keeps buffering then it disconnects. It seems WD are using their own software for DLNA on this unit and it just does not work properly.
Tried it on a 2nd Smart TV and each time got to the video menu it would drop connection.
I bought this unit as a back up for my system and to use as a media streaming device, along with being to access my data from my android devices and laptop.
Set-up was straightforward with good online guides from WD. I downloaded and installed the WD Smartware to back up my systems, only to discover it only supports data so if I suffered a system failure I would have to re-install the OS and all programs.
I decided to try this software just for a data back-up, it started at around 20mps, but slowed to less than .30mps and after running all night it had not even made 100Gb, I left it running and after another 4hrs it had only managed another 4Gb.
I knew WD had a free version of Acronis on their website so downloaded that to get a full backup. This did go quite a bit faster, until it got to a folder of small text files, and again it went like a snail.
Once I had my music on the unit I went to try out the DLNA capabilities, 1st on my TV where it would play a track for like a minute and then skip to the next track. Next I tried streaming directly to my stereo receiver, same result.
To make sure it was not my network I then streamed directly to my receiver from my PC, flawless. So I knew the issue was with the WD device.
Just to make sure I attached a different manufacturer's NAS box to my system, and it worked perfectly.
The concept behind these boxes is great, but the software is just not ready yet.
Also tried to call WD's "24/7" tech support to find it was closed, put in a support request and 3 days later still have not had a reply.

Please be aware that when running backups through the provided software, the initial backup will take much longer than subsequent backups performed afterwards. This is due to the fact that the software is managing the backup database, cataloging files, making copies, and verifying each file ir correctly backed up during this process. If you are wirelessly connected, attaching an Ethernet cable from your computer directly to the router may improve overall performance and efficiency when transferring data across your network.
As a troubleshooting step for resolving your concerns, we advise performing a reset of the device by pressing the reset button on the back of the unit and holding it for 20 seconds. This will remove the current network configuration and possibly allow for any residual configuration issues that may be causing these symptoms.
We would appreciate the opportunity to work with you directly and try to isolate the root cause of these issues, so we can get this resolved. We are able to collect system logs from the drive and if necessary escalate the issue for further review.
