Feels rugged and well protected
Liveview adjustments-I don't rely on Liveview adjustments and if you read online one of the biggest if not the only gripe about this camera is the lack of adjustments you can make during Liveview. That being said, I only use it to review my photos.
Was jumping back and forth between this and the Canon 70D because my friend owns one and after some serious thought about what I would be using the camera for I came to the conclusion that the D7100 was the right one for me.
The picture quality is outstanding in RAW format and JPEG. The control dial despite having two locks is still easy to use and get acclimated to. I go hiking every weekend and I bring my D7100 with me all the time. Having some sort of weather protection to me is a must. I'm all about utility and I didn't want something I had to worry about if it began sprinkling or if there was dust in the air.
I'm also a purist, I don't make videos so I wanted the camera that offered the best possible picture quality and the Canon 70D just didn't have it. One thing you should consider, and its something that helped sway my decision towards this camera is the prospect of buying lenses. Canon lenses are more expensive overall compared the Nikon lenses. You can find more affordable lenses with superior quality from Nikon over Canon. A camera like this is an investment so you if you considering between the two please take the time to look at the cost of lenses because they don't lower in price as opposed to cameras. All in all I recommend this to anyone who wants a rugged, middleweight camera. Its comfortable to hold even on long hikes in my hand.
