Outstanding clarity and balance 01/17/2014
This review is from: Roth KN-1992G TV Soundbar
OK, first the good:
-Excellent sound clarity
-No distortion below ~75% volume
-Great bass for a small system
-7 total speakers
-Very nice remote, high quality
-Bass adjustment on the remote
-Composite & 3.5mm cables
-Comes with removable feet to put on a dresser or furniture
-Comes with wall mounts (sort of)
And now the bad...
-Bass distortion over 75% volume
-Plastic housing doesn't help w/ distortion
-One of the units I received was missing a wall mount
-Poor packaging (my other unit was cosmetically damaged during shipping)
-Only one DSP setting
-No HDMI inputs (optical only)
-No bluetooth (although I use AirPlay anyways)
I picked up two of these on neweggflash for $80 each - an excellent deal. I've got a couple wall mounted TV's in my bedrooms that sound awful with the built in TV speakers. I've been shopping for soundbars for a while now and these fit perfectly for my needs. Both are hooked up to AppleTV's via Optical audio output. I was attracted to these because they don't have a subwoofer (I don't need or want one).
Overall I'm extremely pleased with the sound quality of these units below 75% volume - it's far superior to anything I've heard from Sony, Vizio, etc. But once you get over 75% volume you start to get distortion. It's to be expected in a subless system with plastic housing. Still, I can't imagine a scenario where I'd watch a movie at over 75% volume, so whatever.
My biggest gripes though are the damage to one of my units during shipping and the missing wall mount. The cosmetic damage is relatively minor, but still somewhat aggravating. It's such that it's not worth the hassle of getting an RMA, shipping back and waiting for a replacement. So I guess I'll just live with it. The missing wall mount is another sore spot. The wall mounts have a unique design and cannot be found at a hardware store. I've written Roth and requested they mail me one... I'm awaiting their response.
P.S. to the guy who posted below me that his built in TV speakers sound better. I cannot imagine a scenario where TV speakers would be superior to these.
