Not ready for Prime Time 02/03/2014
This review is from: Crucial M500 CT480M500SSD1 7mm (with 9.5mm adapter) 2.5" 480GB SATA III MLC Internal Solid State Drive (SSD)
Pros:
Fast and small, system performance is noticeably higher than a mechanical drive.
Cons:
I used TrueImage to copy the hard drive on my personal desktop to this drive. I've done this hundreds of times (I have my own IT business). My computer (Windows 7 x64, 16GB RAM) is very solid; it almost never crashes. The SSD drive was noticeably faster than my mechanical drive. But within a few hours I experienced weird behavior: within three days my computer blue-screened twice. Explorer began crashing regularly. One of my VMWare machines crashed. The last straw was today when I woke up to a black screen; had to power cycle the computer to get it running. The only difference was this drive. Keep in mind that I have done the same thing with mechanical drives on the same machine without these problems.
Overall Review:
I'm very disappointed; I had hoped that I could get higher system performance and better reliability for me and my customers by switching to an SSD.
But this experience has shown that this particular SSD is not ready for prime time. An SSD should behave exactly the same as a mechanical drive. I'm happy with NewEgg for allowing me to return the drive for store credit.
