Pros:

This is the second refurbished computer system which we have purchased from Newegg this year. MTC - USA refurbished this particular machine. It came with a new USB optical mouse and keyboard. Also included is a 32 bit Windows 7 Home Premium Disk and a new Activation Key which worked with no issues..

It is a very compact computer, built very robust for tough office environment. There are plenty of USB ports; 2 front and 6 rear ports. It also has a serial and parallel printer port on the rear panel, which gives a hint of the age of the technology. The unit is very quiet and takes very little room.

As for the rebuild, it appears to have the original 250 Gig hard drive and DVD Rewriteable. With some difficulty, a second hard drive may be added under the DVD Rewriter. All appearred to work well. The cleaning of the unit was mediocre, as there was obvious dust on the CPU fans and a few dust bunnies still floating around the interior. The date of original manufacture is early 2007 and it shows many battle scars. The exterior had many scratches.

2 Gigabytes of DDR2 memory were installed with slots for 2 more. Even with this limited memory, the computer is relatively fast. I feel that adding 2 more Gig of memory would not be cost effective in a 32 bit machine.

All in all, not bad value for the money, however our first "refurb." was a much better value for almost the same price, as it was a newer computer and used DDR3 memory.

Cons:

Next time please don't include "Dust Bunnies".

Overall Review:

Considering retail value for new copy of Windows 7 Home Premium is $79.00, I could not even begin to build a comparable computer for anywhere near the cost. For an very economical and reliable computer you simply cannot beat refurbishing.
