3 out of 5 eggs Not for the faint of heart 02/05/2014

This review is from: NETGEAR EX6100-100NAS WiFi Range Extender-802.11ac Dual Band Gigabit

Pros:

Super wifi strength. Small design. Love that it plugs directly into the wall outlet. Love the physical switch for Extender/AccessPoint.

Cons:

What team designed this interface? Who approved this decision? No firmware available on netgear's site, not even shipping firmware? Boot times are horrendous - makes you think it's not working, but wait, there it is. Delay probably due to the URL needing to propagate to DNS so that you can configure it from mywifiext.com...you read that correctly. Oh, and the IP it gets from the DHCP server does not respond so you can only config it from the URL. I was watching my syslog and every time the device would boot it asked for a different address. Why? Oh, and don't disable UPnP, it stops working. I only used it in AP mode, haven't tried it in Extender mode.

Other Thoughts:

The setup is unnecessarily convoluted, even if you follow Netgear's apparently 3 step instruction. First connect to the extender's broadcasting ssid to configure it to access your office ssid. It's similar to HP printers and Roku's, I get it, but wouldn't it be easier to have an app that does the config over Bluetooth?
