Linksys E1200 03/08/2014
This review is from: Linksys E1200-NP Wireless-N300 Router IEEE 802.11b/g/n
The Linksys E 1200 is a standard level wireless router. It has basic features and adequate security for home use. It has the power to handle 3 or 4 wireless connections and the wireless range to work for a standard sized three bedroom house. Not much more. It arrived in a couple of day from Newegg and was boxed appropriately. It comes with the router, network cable, install disk and a power supply. It's a beautiful router. Sleek, small and streamline. Setting up the router was fairly painless. The included software walk me through the steps and within a few minutes it was up and running. I do have a good understanding of routers so the terms may be confusing for some that are new to router set up. Like I stated its a "basic" router. So it does work but lacks features like Gigabyte ports so max transfer speeds are 12Mbs. It only has one band so B/G and N 2.4 is it. No A/C network on this thing. No guest network. No USB ports for external drives. But if you don't need any one those features then this is a good fit. Its reliable and handled many connections without issue. For those of you that remember the old Linksys WRT54G routers. Well this is in that class. But does have the newer 802.11 N (2009) network ability. But not the latest 802.11 A/C. And handles connections better then the WRT54 did. DD-WRT does support this router. So you can flash it with open source firmware to add features. The one I received is Version 2. DD-WRT has firmware for Version 1.0 and 2.
Now for the down side. This router is way over priced. You can buy better routers with more features for less money. I always likes Linksys but I don't know what they are thinking. But set up wasnt bad and it appeared to work on everything I tried it on.
If you like Cisco Linksys and like the look then this a good router. Reliable, basic features and not bad to set up. I need fast network transfers because I send large (10Gb) files from PC to PC so this is not the best router. But I see that it can be used and a network extender or basic home wireless. All your new phones and tablets will work with it
