Breaks USB Boot Apps 03/09/2014
This review is from: SanDisk Cruzer 4GB USB 2.0 Flash Drive Model SDCZ36-004G-B35
Pros:
Works as expected for pure data storage applications.
Cons:
Differs from earlier Sandisk 4GB Flash Drives. It falsely reports as a fixed disk rather than what it is, a removable drive. This breaks all Apps that create bootable drives, such as Windows 7 DVD Download Tool. Sandisk's explanation is that they changed their design to comply with Windows 8 GO feature. Microsoft's own software fails to recognize this drive for purposes of creating a bootable installation drive!
Overall Review:
Don't buy this product if you want to create bootable USB drives. Another reason to hate Microsoft, and now a new reason to avoid Sandisk thumb drives.
Manufacturer Response:
Hello,
My name is Allen from SanDisk support. I appreciate your review. In mid-2013 SanDisk changed production of Cruzer USB Drives to show up as fixed disk to meet a requirement for Windows 8 certification. At the end of 2013, SanDisk reverted back to producing Cruzer USB Drives as removable disk. There is no tool available to change SanDisk Cruzer USB Drives between fixed and removable disk configuration. SanDisk Cruzer USB Drives in removable disk configuration will be available again shortly in retail outlets.
Unfortunately, SanDisk Technical support has no way to identify by the packaging or reseller stock whether the drive will show up as fixed or removable disk. For detailed information, please contact SanDisk support at 1-866-SANDISK or submit a support request at www.sandisk.com/support.
Thank you,
Allen,
SanDisk Support.
