works, except for the echo problem...
echo. The calling party can hear everything they say echoed back to them very loudly, with about a 1/2 second delay or so, thereby making it impossible for them to concentrate on the conversation with you.
I called cisco's tech support but I called the wrong number on their web site - I called the number for their consumer products. So I had to hang up and call the number for their business products. I got connected with a tech in Bulgaria who was very nice, had very good English, but insisted that before he could help me, I would have to create an account on the cisco web site. So while he waited on the line I tried to create the account, but it wouldn't accept my registration because I couldn't seem to get a password that was acceptable, despite trying different combinations of letters, numbers, caps and non-caps, special characters, no special characters, etc. I just decided to give up and return the devices to newegg. Same problem on both the SPA122 and the SPA112, using the service provider named callcentric. Callcentric provided all the settings specific to this device, and I also flashed these devices to the latest firmware. I hunted around for echo settings, and the echo cancellation is turned on. I couldn't find any settings to adjust the input/output gain of the phone jack. googled around for solutions, found none. Made sure to put the calling and called phones in different rooms to eliminate all feedback, and echo was still there on every call.
I'm guessing that the echo has always been there on phone calls, but on traditional analog phone lines we never noticed it because there was never this delay introduced by the digital circuit. now that we have digital circuits which have an inherent delay in them, without a good DSP that cancels echo, we get echo. I notice that if the calling party is on a low quality phone, the echo is not nearly as bad, but when using a higher quality headset, I can hear much better, and unfortunately that means I can hear the echo better as well. I'm going to return these devices and try a different brand of ATA, and hope that it's not the same chipset and same DSP in next brand that I try. Maybe eventually there will be a firmware release that fixes this echo. (my Current firmware version: 1.3.3 (015)) Until then, do not buy unless you want your callers to have an echo.

when buying this or any other brand of ATA, get two so you can test them. callcentric has free accounts with free in-network calling, helped greatly for testing.
