Great case, new design? 04/01/2014
This review is from: BitFenix Prodigy Midnight Black Steel / Plastic Mini-ITX Tower Computer Case
Drive mounting options out the wazoo, including cages for two 2.5 inch drives on the side panel that holds the switches and IO. Lots of fan support. Included 120mm fans are quiet. Sleek looks (of course this is subjective). Includes a quality front panel USB 3.0 to 2.0 adapter if needed as well as matching anodized screws for mounting hardware. Long cables should present no problem reaching necessary sockets. Replacement front grille and side panel window options.
Drive trays could be better, I had to make sure the grommets/pins were fully pushed into their mounting locations before I could put my drives into the trays. Lacking support for upper FlexCage if the optical tray is removed. Would be nice if there were a replacement option for the FyberFlex handles. Exterior thumb screws are metal screw with molded plastic (FyberFlex?) knurling, would have preferred solid and anodized screws like those included for other components. At most I think all this is worth a .5 egg ding but I opted to round my rating up to the full 5.
Based on the pictures Newegg has and comments from other reviewers I think BitFenix has done some material removal from the motherboard tray and power supply cage. It is more open and may help support power supplies with modular cables although I still wouldn't recommend it unless you could test fit first. I was thinking of removing the optical tray to add a second 120mm fan in the front at the designated mounting points but I don't see that there would then be proper support for the upper rails of the FlexCage that holds three 3.5 drives. I tend to rock my cases for a long time (still using an AOpen aluminum case I got from Newegg around 2003 I think, love it and haven't found anything that compares IMO) and I think this one will be sticking around for quite a while. I've opened a ticket with BitFenix support regarding the question of the ODD cage removal and FlexCage support, as well as providing them my feedback on the drive trays, FyberFlex handles and exterior thumb screws. We'll see how their ticketing and support systems work.
