Lets try finishing the product before selling it... 04/15/2014
The setup was simple and straight forward, mostly, and requires little tech knowledge. The image quality was much better than I expected allowing me to see good detail.
I decided to set this up as a security camera for my office. It faces my door and work bench with a good viewing angle. Besides the generously long power cable it has good looks.
The infrared night vision works as expected.
First the DC jack on the device is on the top corner making it top heavy if not mounting on a wall. The next setup issue is configuration. YOU MUST USE A TABLET OR PHONE and connect to the camera's UNSECURED wifi network which provides a live feed. No PC or Mac, you must use a mobile device running their app. You can only create a netcam account while connected to the camera and after you configured it to connect to your wireless AP. This means that account creation goes from your phone, to the camera, then to the internet.
So after configuring the camera to my wireless AP and creating the account I was able to log into my account on my PC using a standard web browser. Sadly they do require that you download and install the iSecurity+ player plugin before viewing any video. This leads me into the next issue, REALLY SLOW FRAMERATES.
Using a 15/3Mbps connection I was able to muster 3-6fps. Granted 3Mbps upload isn't great but I was expecting a little better. I'm sure that it would have worked better if I was able to view the feed over the local LAN instead of having to send it out to the internet first. I couldn't find any documentation on this feature being available.
Actually there was no documentation, except for the piece of cardboard saying to download the app and put the device in setup mode.
Because this was a security camera I wanted it to e-mail me whenever it detected movement. This feature works well, except for the odd options it provides.
-Lot of Motion
Maybe it's my autistic brain, but I can't make sense out of any of those except the first one. Are we talking a scale between an angry mob and Goliath? Thankfully the defaults work well and I didn't need to go guessing.
The last issue was an option to "Purchase Plan". Clicking this pointed me to a free trial of a beta program they have with caption
"Activate clips tab for trial for 'Office'" (Office is the name of my camera)
No that was not a typo on my part, it literally says that. I didn't feel like trying it out, doesn't seem like it would work anyway.
Also, it gets hot.
You really get the sense that this product is unfinished, that they rushed it out figuring they would finish things later.
I would only recommend this if the price was ~$60 because it does detect motion and has good optics. If they can get the rest of the features to work properly then I could see buying it at the MSRP.
