Nice looking design 05/20/2014
This review is from: SanDisk Ultra Dual 32GB USB OTG Flash Drive Model SDDD-032G-A46
- Easily detected by Windows
- 32GB of storage
- dual interfaces: one full USB, one micro USB (OTG)
- sliding connector covers are a nice touch
- Memory Zone App is a nice utility
- USB 2.0 seems slow nowadays, especially if you have 3.0 ports on your PC.
- No lanyard, so it could get easily lost
- slightly wider case compared to similar drives made it difficult to plug into my phone
The SanDisk Ultra Dual 32GB USB OTG Flash Drive is a nice little drive with a sleek looking design. It measures just over 1.25 inches long. It has two covers which you can slide into the unit to expose the USB interfaces on either side. It has a hole through which you can run a lanyard, but none was included, unfortunately. You can also download the Memory Zone App from the Google Play store, which allows you to manage storage on your device along with this drive.
I had a little trouble plugging this into my Droid's Razr Maxx's micro USB port. This was partly because my Otter Box case's raised edge encroached a little on the space around the port, and partly because this drive is a little bulkier than other drives I have tried - although we are only talking a tiny amount wider. I was able to get it in though, and I could easily solve this problem by shaving a tiny amount of plastic from my Otter Box case's opening.
Speed-wise, I transferred just under 28GB of data from my PC to this unit in about 44 minutes and then copied it back to my PC in 26 minutes. This was slower than other drives in this market segment I have tested, but those were USB 3.0, so I assume the slower speed was because this drive is USB 2.0. However, under "normal" conditions I would never need to transfer that much data at once and so the speed probably wouldn't be too much of a deterrent.
In the end, I give this drive 4 eggs. I deduct a half egg for the lack of a lanyard, and another half egg for the speed.
Other than these two minor grievances, it is a nice, very portable solution made by a very reputable manufacturer who has been making flash memory solutions for as long as I can remember. When shopping for products like this, brand reliability is important to me, and I have never had a SanDisk memory product fail.
