Solid hardware, but with a serious defect 06/29/2014
The 860M is a powerful card when running properly, and the i7 installed is likewise a beefy processor. Great for multitasking, games, and anything else performance-heavy you can throw at it. Good keyboard, big touchpad with separate buttons - which is good, since the touchpad is a sticking point for me. Good, long battery life, too, when not gaming, thanks to the Optimus system.
The model has a universal defect that causes blue screens if you use the latest Nvidia drivers for the graphics card, and performance troubles with the driver Asus provides. It's not just me; I've had Newegg replace the whole notebook, and the replacement has the same issue. Several others on the ROG forum do, too. Neither Asus nor Nvidia will acknowledge the issue thus far. Would recommend against buying if this issue remains unaddressed.
Touchpad is also a bit too big and sensitive; if you turn off the "touchpad delay" setting so you can use it in games, expect to have a lot of accidental clicks when your palm hits the corner of the touchpad.
