Excellent cooler, but HUGE 06/30/2014
This review is from: Cooler Master Hyper 212 EVO - CPU Cooler with 120 mm PWM Fan
Cooler master really makes a great cooler. The pipes are solid copper as advertised, and the fan isn't entirely terrible. It's also a standard size, which is nice, so it is easily replaced. The package comes with additional clips for a push-pull config, though I have not had cause to use it. I am cooling an AMD 4350 with it, and it hasn't gone over 48c playing games like XIV and Skyrim on max settings. However, I have no overclocked my chip so your results will be different when working your chip harder.
It's... really, REALLY tall.... and wideish in the wrong direction. I have the original Cooler Master Storm Scout case which I thought would be all I would ever need for my components, but I had to take out one of the side panel fans to accommodate this heat sink. I might try to find shorter MB standoffs to get that last micromillimeternanometer to put my panel fan back in, but I haven't had the motivation and since it hasn't affected temps, it can wait. Though I miss the soft blue of both fans shining at night, it's a small price to pay for a rig that overall is running ten degrees cooler than my old PhenomII build did. The other problem is that in my Gigabyte 990fx board, it overhangs a RAM slot. My Corsair Vengeance is sitting flush up against it which isn't causing a problem, but its pretty much mean I'm limited to the RAM I have or if I want to add more, I will need to make sure it doesn't have a very large heat sink on it. I feel like they didn't really take board and case design into account when making this heat sink.
It didn't need to be quite this tall. I know they want to maximize heat dissipation, but I think they could have designed it differently so this would fit more comfortably in popular cases (especially THEIR OWN CASES).
