This review is from: Intel Core i3-4170 - Core i3 4th Gen Haswell Dual-Core 3.7 GHz LGA 1150 54W Intel HD Graphics 4400 Desktop Processor - BX80646I34170
Pros:
Not much to say really, it's great. I have this as well as an i7 3770 and I have a hard time telling the difference between them during most tasks. I've not yet managed to slow it down.
Blows the doors off older quad-core CPUs like Core 2 Quads and Phenom IIs, despite being "only a dual core".
Cons:
Included heatsink fan has hit a new low... it's basically identical to the one that came with my i7, but that one has a copper core and this one does not. It's just as loud and inefficient as ever, though.
The CPU would hit 80C during stress tests with the stock cooler, however after installing a Cooler Master Hyper T2 and replacing the fan on that with an Arctic Cooling F9 PWM, I've never seen it pass 65C, and it's quieter to boot.
It's not like the "other guys" include stock coolers that are any better, so no eggs lost for this. It's pretty common knowledge among PC builders that stock coolers are garbage.
Overall Review:
I cannot comment on the integrated video as I have this paired with a GTX 750Ti for a budget ITX gaming box. I'm sure it's absolutely fine for a non-gaming box though.
I'd absolutely recommend buying an aftermarket cooler with this. It does not need to be an expensive one, either.
Even in my ThermalTake Core V1 Extreme ITX case with the huge fan in front and dual 80mm exhaust fans, it ran too hot (and loud) for my liking with the stock cooler.
