MSI X99A XPOWER AC LGA 2011-v3 Intel X99 SATA 6Gb/s USB 3.1 USB 3.0 Extended ATX Intel Motherboard
  • Intel X99
  • Core i7 (LGA2011-v3)
  • DDR4 3333*(*OC)/ 3110*/ 3000*/ 2750*/ 2666*/ 2600*/ 2400*/ 2200*/ 2133

Pros:

The standard X99 features are great, 12x SATA, lots of USB 3.0 and two USB 3.1, etc. My last board, an ASUS X99 Deluxe had problems with USB ports from the start, ports would stop working and I'd have to unplug and replug keyboard and mouse, etc. Fastboot never worked which an ASUS rep told me was related to my Video Card BIOS but I tried a 780 Classified and a 980 Ti SC+ and could never get fastboot working. Then about 2 weeks ago, the Deluxe started taking over a minute to boot and Windows had permanent Code 43 errors in the device manager for two of the USB ports. I decided to try this MSI board because it has the highest rating (though only ~4 reviews). My experience with it has been good. USB ports have given no trouble, FastBoot works great, 100% stable (except when I first overclocked and forgot to increase voltage because I was used to ASUS' methods of auto-increasing the voltage but not MSI's fault.) BIOS is pretty nice, but I think ASUS' is a little better but I hardly ever spend time in it and it is certainly good enough so no it's big deal. Had no problems with memory, but I only run 4x4GBs @ 2133mhz so can't comment on how it works with the good stuff. Other than that, I have just been using my computer and not thinking about issues, which is the best compliment for a motherboard I think.

Cons:

There is one thing that I feel is kind of important and neglected by MSI. The last bios for this board was released in march of 2015. If I had known that before I purchased I don't know if I would have bought this board. Don't get me wrong, it's been good and stable and I'm happy so far, but I am not believing there are exactly *0* issues that need to be addressed on it even if I have not run into any. A high performance gaming board needs frequent bios updates, period, or at least I'd like to see a real explanation from MSI that they have 0 reported issues on it which I would find difficult to believe. Apart from that I have zero things to complain about.

Overall Review:

My components in case someone is curious about compatibility:
5960x 8-core CPU
this board obviously.
4x4GB 2133mhz Crucial RAM.
EVGA GTX 980 Ti SC+
Corsair 730T Case.
Cooler Master Nepton 280L (Not 100% compatible with the Corsair Case, but it does attach)
Some Samsung SSDs + WD & Hitachi 2TB HDDs.
Logitech G502 Mouse.
Razer Black Widow Keyboard.
