Overall Review:
When I opened this product, I was not expecting it to be as well packaged as it was. The device was housed in foam and solid cardboard, and the included installation manual and driver disk could be quite under certain circumstances. The included USB extender cable is decent in terms of quality, but I would have liked to see some sort of base or stand. The overall build quality of the adapter is good, but I would have liked the USB cap to stay on a little better. I'm not sure why these adapters even come with a USB cap, but it still could have been executed a little better.
In terms of link speeds, I was able to achieve the stated speed of 433 mbps on 5GHz and about 120 mbps on 2.4GHz. A USB 2.0 port can handle up to 480 mbps speeds, which means that this device can still function at full speed on USB 2.0. While these speeds are not even close to the best you can get, at this price point they are respectable. The range was quite impressive being about twice as good as the add-in card I have in my desktop.
My one slight complaint about this device is the link LED. It is a little on the brighter side, but my biggest issue with it is the fact that it lights up the entire end of the device. This would be fine except that it leaves dark spots where there are internal supports and wires. The one thing I hate more than overly bright lighting is uneven lighting.
Overall, for the price, this is a very solid device. I am someone who will always recommend an internal card rather than a USB adapter; but if an internal card is not an option as it would void a warranty or take up non-existent expansion slots, this is a very good alternative for adding WiFi to a computer.
