eSATA not working kills this enclosure for me 01/01/2007
It appears to have all that is needed to do the job: 1. USB and eSATA plus all cables. 2. Holds down HDD with 4 screws, great for heat dissapation. 3. Has a fan. 4. Fan is very quiet fan. 5. Very slim. 6. LEDs indicate drive activity for both USB and eSATA.
Could not get the eSATA port to work consistantly with 500 GB HDDs from WD and Hitachi while connected to a Qnap TS-101 NAS. Worked TWICE out of hundreds of tries and that was only until it soon locked up. Verified the TS-101 eSATA port worked with the same HDDs and a Cintre CI-355SU2 enclosure. Might be a SATAII issue but forced the WD HDD into SATAI mode and it still wouldn't work.
The Rosewill RX353-S SLV is identical to the Nspire
NSP-HD-343-SSC. I returned the Rosewill once through Newegg and the Nspire through the vendor I bought it from. That's FOUR enclosures of this type I tried to get to work through the eSATA port and it was a no go! I would use the Cintre's enclosure for a SATA port except they have no indication of HDD activity, only for USB.
