Bought 3 to setup a RAID in a new ASUS Maximus rig. All three had firmware SD04, two showed full 32MB buffer, one only 8MB. Contacted Seagate via chat and burned firmware AD14 on bootable CD. But it wouldn't flash. Had to first change SATA type in the BIOS from RAID to IDE. Now all 3 are showing full 32MB. All three were jumpered for 150 MB/sec at the factory. Pulling off the jumpers for 300 MB/sec was almost impossible. Used the hooked end of a small nail file. Speeds without RAID via HDtune were 100MB+/sec peak, 80MB+/sec avg. and 85MB+/sec burst. Seagate should have a) caught the bad firmware and b) made the jumpers easier to use. But they are quiet and work well.
