PRESS RELEASE Cavalry introduces the Bulldog Series Bulldogs access hard drives externally without an enclosure
Simi Valley – March 16, 2011 – Cavalry Storage® has announced their Bulldog series of 2.5” and 3.5” SATA HDD to USB 3.0 bridge products. In addition to being one of the first bridges to feature full USB 3.0 with 5 Gbit/s performance, the product line sports multicolored connectable blocks.
RJ Yeh, CEO of Cavalry, said “We chose a stackable brick design for the bridge enclosure for more than just stylish design. The size of the blocks and location of SATA connector allows the stacking of multiple bridge plus drive units. Up to 8 or more drives stack one upon the other to form an attractive tower right on your desk. The bricks hold everything tightly together”. RJ continued, “With the latest 3 TB drives this means that you can have a tower of over 24 TB attractively sitting on your desk”.
To add to both aesthetics and physical integrity, Cavalry included silicone drive sleeves to match the colors of the “Bulldogs”. Customers may want to stack all the same color to make up a tower or select different colors indicating either the method of storage or the type of data on each drive. The sleeve also helps to create space between the drives to dissipate heat, reduce drive noise and protect the sensitive drives from bumps.
There are some differences between the 2.5” and 3.5” versions. In addition to the size which is adjusted to allow stacking or either size drive, the 2.5” Bulldog normally gets power from the USB port. However, an additional cable may be used to supply extra current that may be needed for the higher capacity 2.5” drives. The 3.5” Bulldog includes a separate power adapter.
The Bulldog finds many applications as portable storage. For example, the 2.5” 1 TB drive coupled with a Bulldog bridge and drive cover, is small enough where it can fit inside a shirt pocket. A simple connection to a USB 3.0 port makes transfer and storage of an enormous amount of data easy and very fast. To store 1 TB of data on DVDs, you would need almost 250 disks. The DVD solution would cost much more and would be too big to fit in your pocket.
The Bulldog is compatible with all types of computers with USB. It is backward-compatible with USB 2.0, although performance is limited to USB 2.0 speeds. SSDs or Solid State Drives are ideal where it can fully take advantage of the speeds the Bulldog has to offer.
The accompanying video demonstrates the features and ease of use of the Bulldog.
Availability Newegg will begin offering Bulldogs starting March 2011.
