Vantec NexStar SuperSpeed USB 3.0 Adapter Receives the Gold Seal of Approval from OverClock Intelligence Agency
The conclusion is pretty easy here. If you have an available USB 3.0 port on your machine and a SATA drive not installed internally, you really cannot lose by getting a USB 3.0 adapter. I will admit to formerly having a bias against these slim factor adapters. I couldn't imagine not having a drive that I planned on using either installed internally or placed in an external enclosure. However, recently I upgraded my internal drives, pulling the 750gb that was used for this review and replaced it with two 1T drives. The 750gb is now used for monthly backups. It sure would have been quicker if I had this adapter last week when I was running those backups.
I am sold on this particular adapter. It is slim and fits in my drawer well. When attached to a drive, the adapter doesn't take up much room at all and I only had minor difficulty with the length of the power cord. It seemed a little short to me, but it could have been how I routed the cable as well. At $35, this adapter is priced comparable to similar products. I am happy to give it the OCIA.net Gold Seal of Approval.
