ASUS USB-AC56 Dual-band Wireless-AC1200 USB 3.0 Wi-Fi Adapter Up to 400+867Mbps Wireless Data Rates WPA2
  • Owned For: 1 day to 1 week

Pros: None. Can not get it installed

Cons: Many. Can not get it installed.

Other Thoughts: Windows 7, 64 bit. The CD Rom that came with the device would not load and run. Had to go through Explorer to find and open setup application. Driver and Utility appeared to install properly. System rebooted. Blue LED on front of adapter is lit. But Adapter does nothing. Will not work. Also, utility will not run. Gives me message that I must first connect adapter to my computer. Well, it is connected. Checked Control Panel:System:Device Manager ... Adapter shows properly installed with all drivers working. Ran massively long CAT 5 cable to connect computer to hardwire network. Allowed windows to do search for updated driver for this adapter. Search came back that best driver was already installed. Tried uninstalling and reinstalling driver. Tried downloading and installing driver and utility from ASUS site. NOTHING I TRY WILL WORK. This Adapter simply will not install, will not work. The utility will not run. That's 6 hours of my life ... WASTED. I will not recommend this product to any friends or family. But, if you are a terrible person, unkind to your fellow man .... by all means ... buy this. Buy a dozen. Give them as gifts. Me? This is the very last ASUS product I will ever buy.

ASUS USB-AC56 Dual-Band AC1200 Wi-Fi Adapter IEEE 802.11ac, IEEE 802.11a/b/g/n USB 3.0 Up to 300+867Mbps Wireless Data Rates

Pros: No pros as of yet. Am unable to get device installed.

Cons: Installation is a nightmare.

Other Thoughts: Windows 7. I simply can not get this adapter installed. Something is wrong with the installation CD. It will not automatically boot. Was able to find and open the appropriate file to complete installation of the driver, but once done, even with system reboot, it will not provide wireless access to routers. Check of system, devices indicates the driver is working. Attempt to update driver indicates that most up to date driver is installed. Although the adapter utility program is installed, it will not run. It tells me that it can not run unless the adapter is connected. It is connected, and the blue LED on the adapter is lit. Even attempts to download setup and drivers directly from ASUS are met with similar failure. I have wasted 6 hours of my life that I will never get back. I am very bitter about this purchase. I absolutely do not recommend this product to friends or family. I do not wish it upon anyone reading this review. In the future I will avoid all products manufactured by ASUS.

CyberpowerPC Desktop PC Gamer Ultra 2175 AMD FX-Series FX-8100 (2.8GHz) 8GB DDR3 500GB HDD Windows 8.1 64-bit

Pros: o Speedy browsing
o Quiet

Cons: o Came slightly damaged - dented case on both sides
o Errant screw rattling around in case
o Windows 8.1
o Smallish hard drive - 500 GB
o NO memory expansion slots - Maxed out at 8 M
o Only 1 mother board expansion slot usable - PCI. PCIe expansion slot blocked by graphics card.
o Case is miserable for CD/DVD drive use - door swings only 1 direction, limiting box placement for practical use to top of desk and left of screens.
o Power on/off button needs to be on top of machine
o No documentation for the machine, just MSI board and graphics card. Not even a packing slip with system details.
o Graphics card documentation miserable.
o No USB 3.0
o Had no use for the gaming keyboard and mouse - trash can.

Other Thoughts: Not a gamer. Buy gaming systems for securities trading. Gaming systems geared to graphics power/speed over raw processing, which is what I look for in a desktop. Was very disappointed with this purchase though.

Computer was damaged. Both side panels dented. Had to have happened at manufacturing plant. No signs of damage to outside packaging. Plus, errant screw was rattling around inside the case. Not good. So, terrible shipping QC. Too much trouble to return it. Still, ticks me off.

Machine fired up OK though and runs well.

Couple of issues in addition to cons listed above. I absolutely deplore Windows 8. If you can, avoid it at all cost. Took me many hours to understand how to do the most basic of tasks. What a waste of time.

Multi monitor set up can be difficult. Needed to attach 5 screens. Little to no documentation on how to get it done. Thorough internet search no help. Upset that graphics card had DVI, Display Port, HDMI connections. Display port = nightmare to understand. My screens are DVI/VGA. Solved problem by hanging only 1 screen off graphics card with DVI. Went into MSI mother board settings and changed primary graphics default to internal on-board graphics instead of PCIe. Connected one DIV and one VGA to internal graphics connection. Then, used two older EVGA USB to VGA adapters. Next, uninstalled the Radeon 7750 graphic card to delete Radeon Catalyst Control Center software under display adapters in device manager. Rebooted. BAM, all five screens run like a charm. Took 16 hours of toying to make it happen though. The graphics card companies hate their customers. Radeon does a miserable job at explaining how to complete what should be the most simple of initial setup tasks. And, it's control center software prevented basic USB to VGA adapters from working.

This case is horrible. Too difficult to locate the box under the desk because the power button is too far down on the case. Plus, the swinging door to gain access to the CD drive limits placement to the left of the monitors. So, unless you're planning on putting this ON your desk to the left of your monitors, I'd buy something else.

Overall - it'll do. Not a great deal. But, it will meet my needs.
