ASUS STRIX-GTX970-DC2OC-4GD5 GeForce GTX 970 4GB 256-Bit GDDR5 PCI Express 3.0 SLI Support G-SYNC Support Video Card
  • Verified Owner
  • Owned For: 1 week to 1 month

Pros: unbelievable I actually switch this card from a gtx 780 currently running a i7 4960x rampage iv black edition motherboard with 64gb of ram benchmarks from 3dmark and furmark scores were about the same so nothing really gain or loss except will be cheaper now to run sli soon

Cons: well been reading we all been nipped out of 512mb ram these cards are actually 3.5 gb ram not 4gb and the gtx980 are 3.7gb ram not 4gb cannot go to amd cards reason my 3d monitor is meant to be play on nvidia

Other Thoughts: real reason I picked this up we always want the latest it like a disease, I posted somewhere here on newegg my other review on the rampage iv that a x99 system will go to when the ram drops in price and the newer cpu arrives, maybe I just run 3 of these strix cause it will max out at 3 unless move gtx980 can go to 4 cards in sli

Pros: Stable and solid it is all that matters to me ,over year not a single clinch or neither a headache.

CORSAIR Dominator Platinum 64GB CMD64GX3M8A2133C9

Would no way be able to afford a x99 system to match my current setup , so I wait another year to see what's out there

ONKYO TX-NR525 5.2-Channel Network A/V Receiver

5 out of 5 eggs Well worth it 12/05/2014

This review is from: ONKYO TX-NR525 5.2-Channel Network A/V Receiver

Pros: Very good receiver. Great sound and picture with the HDMI pass-through feature. And the device is "feature-rich", combining the ability to handle all video and audio connections with web and blu-tooth streaming.
The screen on my television initially would flicker periodically when connected to the receiver using the HDMI pass-through feature, but only when the cable-box was the source. I found a quick fix for that, just in case anyone else runs into the same problem: Set the 'Sharpness' level on the cable-box (Verizon FIOS) to 'Default'. The settings were set to 'Sharp' - by me, I'm sure - which appears to have caused the cable-box to flood the input port on the receiver, causing it to reset periodically. The setting on the cable box is found under:
Menu/Settings/Audio & Video/Video Settings/Video Sharpness

Cons: The Onkyo receiver has not caused the screen to flicker or reset a single time once the setting was changed to 'Default' on the cable-box. Again, the picture appears to be clearer when passing the HDMI signal through the receiver; background images in particular are sharper and clearer. And even if my judgment on that is an optimistic one, the ability to connect all audio and video connections to the receiver is much easier and convenient to manage when switching between peripherals. I would still recommend using 'like' HDMI cables to connect peripherals as the connection to the television; no need to risk a loss in signal strength using a lesser cable.

Other Thoughts: As stated before, the sound is fantastic. It is connected to a Polk Audio 5.1 surround system and it gives a great home-theater experience. Massive bass during action scenes gives you the film immersion that some (like myself) just can't do without. Yet it's versatile enough to enhance dialogue clearly so that you don't have to trade voice clarity for big bang. Of course, music sounds great. Very satisfied with the receiver... now that I've figured out how to use it.
