Mushkin Enhanced Ridgeback 12GB (3 x 4GB) 240-Pin DDR3 SDRAM DDR3 1600 (PC3 12800) Desktop Memory Model 998998

5 out of 5 eggs Rock solid, high performance, excellent deal 01/03/2013

This review is from: Mushkin Enhanced Ridgeback 12GB (3 x 4GB) 240-Pin DDR3 SDRAM DDR3 1600 (PC3 12800) Desktop Memory Model 998998

Pros: handles a tad bit of overclocking to match higher bus speeds for OCing on the mobo, has run solid for over 14 months now

Cons: This set did not mix well with a similarly Spec'd SPD RAM from another brand - the other kit was of lesser capacity and this was enough... but this is the first time I've ever seen this happen.

GWC AY2210 Mini DP to HDMI with Audio Adapter

5 out of 5 eggs Well, it works. Its cheap. What else do you want? 08/24/2012

This review is from: GWC AY2210 Mini DP to HDMI with Audio Adapter

Pros: This is the 2nd time I've bought this adapter, and its the second time I'm very happy with it!
-Fully functional audio passthrough
-compliant with several HDTV's I've tried it with, and 5 different monitors (I use these to run triple screen desktop)

Cons: The black version was a couple bucks more. The back of my case was black, my monitor cables were black, my desk is black. Stop trying to milk money out of me. That kind of upset me that someone would do that, but hey, supply and demand I guess. I'd rather get a better deal and just wrap them up in a black wrap instead.

Other Thoughts: Its the cheapest Mini-DP to HDMI adapter I could find that looked respectable. I've had one in use for the better part of a year now and it hasn't frayed internally or anything... I take the desktop to LAN's and move my desk around a lot so it does take a lot of 'wear and tear'. Overall, very well built product and 100% functional. Happy enough to buy it again sometime later.

ASUS VS Series VS238H-P Black 23

4 out of 5 eggs Entry level price, Entry level monitor 08/24/2012

This review is from: ASUS VS Series VS238H-P Black 23" 2ms HDMI LED Backlight Widescreen LCD Monitor 250 cd/m2 50,000,000:1

Pros: -Inexpensive
-Thin design will make it nice to wall-mount
-Uses standard power cord
-LED backlit means the screen stays cool
-OSD is intuitive and easy to use, but limited (see below)
-DVI and VGA cables provided

Cons: -TN Type panel, as with all screens in this price range, have gross color gradients
-Either the Panel on this screen is really bad or the Anti-Glare coating is over-done. Text is more fuzzy than the VH238H I already have.
-Stand is sturdy, holds the monitor still. If you shake the desk though, the monitor stand does recoil A LOT. If you have a flimsy desk, you need a sturdy stand. This is not a sturdy stand. I happen to have a solid desk but I noticed when moving my desk with these screens on it, the VS238H (compared to my VH series) would wobble like crazy. They stay put though.
-No built in cable organizer. Minor point but I like having one on my main screen. Neither of these were main screens though so I didn't care much.
-OSD doesn't have very good 'tweakability' in certain modes

Other Thoughts: It was cheap and it came with a rebate. It was one of the cheapest TN based 1080p screens that were bigger than 22" (I wanted something to match the 23" I already had)

I bought two of these to pair up with a VH238H and I have some mixed feelings about this. The Antiglare on this panel is over-done and impedes text readability to me.
Moving stuff around on desktop composition is also a tad fuzzy leading me to believe there might be some interpolation going on, but this could be my graphics card failing to handle 3 monitors correctly. I'm also using cheap adapters soooo yeah. grain of salt there.

Considering that this is one of the cheapest 23" 1080P screens available, I would say this is a great buy. It is not the highest quality, but ASUS backs their products like a champ. One of two screens came with a single dead pixel. by ISO standards, this is not enough to warrant a replacement of any kind, and to be honest, anyone who buys this monitor should not complain about it.
