Cooler Master Seidon 120V – Compact All-In-One CPU Liquid Water Cooling System with 120mm Radiator and Fan

5 out of 5 eggs Defective Product -- Manufacturing Defect 01/25/2014

This review is from: Cooler Master Seidon 120V – Compact All-In-One CPU Liquid Water Cooling System with 120mm Radiator and Fan

Pros: Unknown, unable to install. No response from Cooler Master warranty support three weeks after the initial request for support. Returning to Newegg. Out the shipping costs.

Cons: One of the specially-machined screws that attaches the water cooler to the AMD case mount had no threads on it. Making matters worse -- the diameter of the remaining stock is too small to allow me to use a thread die to add threads to the existing stock. It appears as if they machined the screw threads off!

Other Thoughts: This is the third cooler master product that I've had problems with, and which cooler master failed to respond to warranty support requests for -- the other two were full size HAF 932 cases, where the 230mm fans stopped working, and the case wheels (casters) simply broke from the weight of the computer case.

5 out of 5 eggs Amazing -- Dropped Prime95 temps from 68C to 50C at 25C ambient on FX-8150 07/04/2013

This review is from: Cooler Master Seidon 120M – All-In-One CPU Liquid Water Cooling System with 120mm Radiator and Fan

Pros: Easy install; AMD FX-8150 on Gigabyte motherboard.

Prime95 benchmark shows:
With TurboCore disabled, dropped max load temps on stock cooler at stock settings from 61C to 41C at 25 ambient.

With TurboCore set at 4.2GHz and 4 cores, dropped max load temps from 68C to 50C at 25 ambient.

Cons: None.

Other Thoughts: Watch the You-tube videos first. CoolerMaster posted several; the 7-minute video is the best one.

Configure the radiator fans as intake fans, not exhaust fans. Think automobile radiators -- do they blow hot engine air over the radiator?

Got this on sale at NewEgg --- can't go wrong at this price.

Rosewill BlackHawk-Ultra Full Tower Gaming Computer Case, support up to HPTX MB, Support Dual PSU, come with 8 cooling Fans

Pros: Anti-vibration mounting for (10) internally-mounted 3.5" disk drives. The 10 drives are placed in special carriers with rubber shock-mounting grommets. These grommets dampen all vibrations, similar to how suspension bushings in cars work. Less vibration extends drive life.

Highly efficient cooling design for (10) internally-mounted 3.5" disk drives. The mounting tower for the 10 drives has a four (4) 120mm fans in a push/pull arrangement blowing outside air over the drives then drawing the air out through the side of the case, so that the air that cools the drives never reaches the motherboard or CPU. My average drive temps dropped from 50C to about 30C on average when I switched cases. Lower temps extend drive life.

Fantastic air flow over the motherboard and CPU. I run an 8-core AMD at full throttle on certain database operations, with all 8 cores pegged at 100%. CPU temp never rises over 60C with the OEM cooler at 75F ambient room temps.

Well-designed power distribution block for the cooling fans.

Cons: Not so much acon as a suggestion. With a slight bit of re-engineering, this case could easily support 16 internal 3.5" drives. For database servers, these is no need for a 5.25" drive mount. I do not know of any well-designed cases that support 14 to 16 internal 3.25" disk drives.

Other Thoughts: The case weighs 70lbs when fully loaded with 13 3.5" disk drives and one 5.25" DVD ROM, . The supplied wheels are absolutely necessary for moving the case. The case should be placed on a hard surface, and not on a carpet.

I bought two CoolerMaster HAF 932 cases for database servers prior to purchasing these cases. The Rosewill case outclasses the CoolerMaster case in many, many ways. The only thing I like better about the CoolerMaster is the way that the side panel opens -- it's sort of a hinge-type arrangement, much easier to deal with than the more common slide and lock arrangement.
