Good combo

Logitech Wireless Combo MK260 920-002950 Black 8 Hot Keys USB RF Wireless Standard Keyboard and Mouse
Logitech Wireless Combo MK260 920-002950 Black 8 Hot Keys USB RF Wireless Standard Keyboard and Mouse

Pros: I bought this for my daughter's desktop and then again for a re-build I did. Have not had any problems with either one. The range at which I use it is very small, but no complaints on connectivity. Got it both times for around $20 so I am happy.

Cons: I haven't ordered one for myself to use when working on other people's PCs? Waiting for them to go on sale again around the holidays.

Great for a while

GIGABYTE GA-H55M-USB3 LGA 1156 Intel H55 HDMI USB 3.0 Micro ATX Intel Motherboard
GIGABYTE GA-H55M-USB3 LGA 1156 Intel H55 HDMI USB 3.0 Micro ATX Intel Motherboard

Pros: I bought this board to use in an Intel build with an i3-540. The board is well-labeled and easy to set up. The software that comes packaged is also good, and allows for easy over-clocking if that's your thing (it's not mine...yet). I haven't used the USB 3 or HDMI yet but got them for future upgrades. Overall I didn't have a single problem until it died this weekend...

Cons: It started rebooting randomly while doing VERY mundane tasks - internet, email, pictures. I would check the CPU and system temps and everything was in line. Then this weekend it would reboot every time I brought it up. I did a RAM and PSU check and everything was ok. So I came back here as I remembered reading some bad reviews before I bought it. Sure enough, a lot of people have had similar issues with this mobo.

Overall Review: For the 6 months it worked I couldn't have been happier. So I will RMA it and hope for a good board this time, as I really like what it offers. Keeping my fingers crossed...

It just works

D-Link DGS-1008G Gigabit Desktop Switch - Retail
D-Link DGS-1008G Gigabit Desktop Switch - Retail

Pros: Don't have to give it a second thought. I think that's mostly what you want from a switch. Can't remember a time in the past year that I've had to reboot it (unlike my router). It mounts to the wall behind my desk so it's out of the way.

Cons: none

Overall Review: I bought this as I was setting up a home file server and just didn't have enough ports in my wireless router. The plan is to eventually go gigabit on everything so this was the first step in the process.

Good RAM

CORSAIR XMS2 2GB (2 x 1GB) DDR2 800 (PC2 6400) Dual Channel Kit Desktop Memory Model TWIN2X2048-6400
CORSAIR XMS2 2GB (2 x 1GB) DDR2 800 (PC2 6400) Dual Channel Kit Desktop Memory Model TWIN2X2048-6400

Pros: I use Corsair RAM any time I can, as they have been pretty reliable for me. This set put a little extra juice in an old PC I'm setting up as a home server. Will keep buying Corsair until they stop working.

Cons: None.

Overall Review: I guess with RAM it's sometimes a toss-up as to what people should buy, especially when you're not building a gaming rig. I think it comes down to brand familiarity and looking at the past reviews. Let me say that I have gotten bad RAM from Corsair before, but the few times I've had to use their RMA process it's been fast and easy. I think people should buy this with confidence.

Good Value

LG BP200 Blu-Ray Disc Player with SmartTV and Wi-Fi
LG BP200 Blu-Ray Disc Player with SmartTV and Wi-Fi

Pros: I bought this for $49 before Black Friday - it sold out in a half a day **twice** at that price. I had been considering the $38 Black Friday deals at other stores but this had built-in wi-fi and the extra features were well worth the extra $.

Cons: I have the included apps on my TV already so I haven't had much use for them at this point. But I was still willing to pay the extra just to have them and the wi-fi built in and to make sure that I got a quality player.

Overall Review: It loads fast and has yet to cause me a problem. I'd say if you can find it relatively cheap it's well worth it!

Awesome

EDIMAX EW-7811Un 150 Mbps Wireless IEEE 802.11b/g/n Nano USB Adapter

Pros: These little things are awesome. I bought one to connect my daughter's pc to our network and have never had the first issue with it. It is tiny and fits in the front panel USB port and I can close the cabinet door.

Cons: It's not as fast as having it hard-wired to the network, but I didn't expect it to be.

Overall Review: I bought two of these super cheap, and now I can plug one in when working on other PCs instead of trying to unplug network cables from my switch.
