Pros: Easy Web panel usability, good price.
Cons: Product fails after 30 minutes to a few hours forcing you to have to reset the device. WiFi continues broadcasting ID even though you can't join the network. Web panel is completely inaccessible with the lights on the front of the device giving no indication of failure. They blink regardless of if the device is working properly or failing. I wish the lights were more informative, even blinking with traffic is ok but just steady blinking with no indication of what state each light is monitoring is in.
Other Thoughts: Have RMA'd the device back to newegg and will give them one more shot with a replacement.READ FULL REVIEW
Pros: Seagate picks up the phone. Hard drive does not vibrate. Help hold the computer down with the extra weight. Data remains on platters. Seagate is upfront about the terrible quality of this drive. RMA process with Seagate is rather is rather smooth if not slow.
Cons: Drive is only rated to run 8 hours per day by Seagate, so the other 16 hours is up to you. Drive firmware completely make perfectly good hardware useless. Seagate uses data from other motherboard manufacturers to pass the buck on quality. Two of the five drives I purchased initially were dead on arrival, of the remain 3 only one has survived my original purchase back in Oct '12.
Do not bother talking to Seagate tech support about the drive as they only seem to be concerned with what they consider "reasonable" usage of only 8 hours a day. They will then proceed to morph into a marketing department and sell you a new "enterprise" drive. Just RMA the thing and safe yourself the hours of torment.
Other Thoughts: If you happen to be in the 25% of users who actually survive the warranty period without replacement I would have a backup plan.READ FULL REVIEW
