Most Favorable Review

It's a cable tie. What's not to like?

GENERIC 73CT-01-0840-BK Cable Tie, BLACK, 8" 100 pcs/Pack
GENERIC 73CT-01-0840-BK Cable Tie, BLACK, 8" 100 pcs/Pack

Pros: High understanding of this product because... well... it's a cable tie. Does what it's supposed to for the home user and will last you through several computers, I'll wager. Like how my case is nice and tidy now. All you organization freaks out there order these, because you'll have a party with them.

Cons: None.

Most Critical Review

Great 1080p graphics with some serious caveats.

GIGABYTE G1 Gaming GeForce GTX 960 2GB GDDR5 PCI Express 3.0 SLI Support ATX Video Card GV-N960G1 GAMING-2GD
GIGABYTE G1 Gaming GeForce GTX 960 2GB GDDR5 PCI Express 3.0 SLI Support ATX Video Card GV-N960G1 GAMING-2GD

Pros: This card is one sexy specimen. It barely fits in my Antec Nine Hundred Two case, and it's really the center of attention with its LED lighting and aggressive bare metal aesthetic. The fans didn't add at all to the system noise, whether in benchmarks or in idle. In any but the most graphics intensive games, this will give 60 or close to 60 frames easily, and in the most intensive games, you can always compromise on a bit of anti-aliasing or shadow quality, two of the less noticeable features. With the two 6-pin connections, you can probably squeeze just a bit more juice out of it.

Cons: I'm an Assassin's Creed nut, and, I know this card is under the recommended specs for Unity, but I was hoping to get a nice compromise, maybe turning down a few settings, medium textures, and running at 900p. But the stuttering is too awful, and, if a game in the SECOND year of the PS4's lifespan runs this terribly, I can't say this card has much of a life left. Also, more importantly, it only worked for a few minutes at a time, so I had to RMA it. Every so often, the drivers crashed, saying "Nvidia Windows Display Kernel Driver stopped responding," which crashes any benchmarks, and either black screens or just crashes any games. No amount of driver sweeps in safe mode, rollbacks to launch drivers, or tweaking power options did anything to help.

Overall Review: I was frothing at the mouth for some inexpensive, quality graphics. That's mostly what I got, and I think others will be happy if they aren't too choosy. But if you have the extra $120 and you want smooth sailing for the duration of this gen's demanding or just plain shoddy console ports, get the 970 instead. Also, the Gigabyte "GPU gauntlet" is just so much marketing speak - DOA's still happen.

Amazing

PS3 Consoles
PS3 Consoles

Pros: Awesome, uncompressed sound for all your music and games - you can hear crystal clear HDMI sound coming through if you have good speakers, and they're so worth it if you have a PS3. There are also a ton of great exclusives, this is the right time to jump into this hardware cycle because there are so many games, but the PS4 is still a ways off. Great time to be a gamer. PSN is also free.

Cons: Backwards compatibility removed, but that's less a con, because it increased the stability and performance in the slim model.

Overall Review: Buy it if you're deciding between 360 and PS3, unless your goal is to play online on xbox with friends, because xbox wins for multiplayer support, and for co op games. PS3 is the clear winner in multimedia capability, though.

This thing is a beautiful workhorse.

ASUS VW246H Glossy Black 24" HDMI Widescreen LCD Monitor 300 cd/m2 ASCR 20000:1 (1000:1) Built-in Speakers
ASUS VW246H Glossy Black 24" HDMI Widescreen LCD Monitor 300 cd/m2 ASCR 20000:1 (1000:1) Built-in Speakers

Pros: It's put up with my abuse for about a year and a half without flinching. I use the heck out of this thing every day, whether on PS3 or just my computer. It's got an HDMI-in and output speaker jack for crystal clear lossless HDMI audio from my PS3 to my speakers, and this makes it pretty much the perfect combo TV/monitor for this college kid's entertainment system. It's a great junction for whatever you want to plug into it, be it console, desktop, or laptop. And Blu-ray images are flawless, because it also happens to be 1080p.

Cons: The stand wobbles, but only when you move it, and the speakers really do suck, don't even consider using them. Get any other audio output and you'll be fine.

Overall Review: I have a desktop motherboard, netbook, and monitor through Asus - they're not only reasonably priced products but they're rock solid quality and construction, and I really will have my eye out for them buying any other PC accessories. I was sitting here thinking of how beautiful this monitor is and I just had to post how much I love it.

Best console option out there

PS3 Consoles
PS3 Consoles

Pros: There are lots and lots of pros for this system, mostly because it's quite strong in lots of areas, and because at this point in the industry it's very cost effective. This is a hell of an entertainment center that can play games, movies, and hold any music and (I think) videos that you want on it. You can even browse if there's something you just have to look up, though the browser is sluggish, and, a great plus for anyone really, you do not have to pay for PSN. It's got great games, and lots of them, really for any genre you're interested in. Also, I already have some lovely exclusives (Ratchet & Clank, GOWIII--- Newegg, why is this title censored? ---, LittleBigPlanet) and I expect it still has life in it for a few more knockouts. Also, Netflix works SO much more smoothly here than on a PC because Silverlight doesn't stick its nose in anywhere. Sad, but true. Overall, best console option out there right now.

Cons: The graphics do not compare to my uber gaming PC, and any PC gamers looking at PS3 exclusives with envy, know that the graphics will be a downgrade from your PC, ESPECIALLY if you are used to anti-aliasing. On the PS3, get used to a few jaggies, especially on Rockstar games.

Overall Review: I'm not going to compare it to the Xbox because I don't have one and because people pretty much know which is for them (PS3 more SP/all around entertainment and Xbox for MP enthusiasts). And because I do not own an Xbox, so take that with a grain of salt.

Really useful for hot CPUs.

Cooler Master Hyper N520 - CPU Cooler with Copper Base and 5 Heatpipes
Cooler Master Hyper N520 - CPU Cooler with Copper Base and 5 Heatpipes

Pros: I like the utilitarian design to this. It's a big, solid hunk of metal that, when you look at it, says that its sole reason for being is to protect your CPU. And it does that really well, I don't think my CPU goes over about 40 even when playing GTA IV or EFLC.

Cons: None. I have a biggish case, so the size is not a problem, and I have no idea if it will be too big for anyone else's.

Overall Review: Goes great with quad cores. Ensure your investment! And I think it looks cool, but of course that's rather subjective.
