Corsair Hydro Series H110i GTX 280mm Extreme Performance Liquid CPU Cooler

2 out of 5 eggs Failed after 6 months use 03/28/2016

This review is from: Corsair Hydro Series H110i GTX 280mm Extreme Performance Liquid CPU Cooler

Pros: -Fits well in Corsair 450D case
-Looks nice
-Corsair 1-800 Call Support is not outsourced (refreshing) (2 eggs just for this reason)

Cons: -Failed after exactly 6 months of use on an i7-5820k at stock speeds

-Sudden pump failure nearly fried my CPU, fortunately the Intel thermal safeguards kicked in and saved me.

-Ran at 30C idle and 50C during gaming (CS:GO) when it did work, which, come to find out is actually horrible for this cooler. I think this was a sign of a poor quality pump, since the newly installed RMA replacement runs around 20C-22C at idle and 30C-35C under the same load.

-When your CPU cooler fails, it's extremely inconvenient because it essentially renders your PC useless. That's why I opted to do an Express RMA with Corsair, in which you pre-pay for a new CPU cooler up front (at over retail mind you) and then the charge is removed when they receive the old one. The problem I had is that they couldn't complete an Express RMA for me until my RMA ticket was approved, and my ticket sat in a pending status for 2 days. When I called a second time to expedite this process since it was now Friday, and their customer support closes for the weekend and actually EARLY on Friday as well, they still said that despite trying to "force it through", they still couldn't do it, which meant I would have to wait until Monday to start the Express RMA process. To add insult to injury, my RMA ticket was approved at 5pm Friday, but customer support closes at 3pm, and calling is the ONLY way to do an Express RMA. Very frustrating, because this means more downtime, and in my eyes, unnecessarily so considering I was willing to pay over retail for a new unit to be expedited to me.

-Again, to add insult to injury, I was required to pay for shipping for the defective unit back to Corsair. 6 months of use out of a CPU cooler I paid $139.99 for, and I have to pay for return shipping? That's extremely poor form. With my reviews, I try to be fair to all parties, and assess the situation from both sides. I would have overlooked a lot of the RMA issues considering the people I spoke to on the phone were very polite and courteous (something I hold in high regard), and chalked it up to a busy schedule for them. However, to find out after the fact that I also need to pay to return the defective item back to Corsair tilted me the opposite direction. It was $12, not life altering in any way, shape or form, but it's not about the money, it's the principle of the matter. I'm already inconvenienced with a defective unit, I'm inconvenienced again by being delayed an extra 2 days because of their processing formalities, and I'm inconvenienced having to tear apart my system replacing an item that I didn't think I would ever have to remove, and then my cost of ownership for said item goes up because I get taxed another $12 to send the broken thing back? That's the straw that broke this camels back, and really left me with a sour taste in my mouth about the entire experience.

Other Thoughts: In hindsight I'm glad it failed, because otherwise I would have unknowingly had to live with a sub-par CPU cooler that I paid a premium price for. Of course I'd rather just have the product that I purchased work out of the box as advertised the first time, but I think that's asking a bit much these days. Besides, a company couldn't guarantee a 0% failure rate, just like they couldn't stop the weather from raining, but what they COULD do is at least hold an umbrella over your head if it does rain. Corsair failed to do that in my eyes. Maybe on the next one...

1 out of 5 eggs DOA, would not recommend 05/08/2014

This review is from: hec HP585DB 585W ATX12V Power Supply - Power Cord Included

Pros: Great paperweight.

Cons: DOA. Should have known better than to go cheap on a PSU. Just buy a quality PSU and be done with it.

Other Thoughts: Don't be cheap.

MSI GS70 2OD-002US Gaming Laptop 4th Generation Intel Core i7 4700HQ (2.40 GHz) 16 GB Memory 1 TB HDD 256 GB SSD NVIDIA GeForce GTX 765M 2 GB 17.3

Pros: Fast...when it's not being RMA'd. I previously gave this laptop a 5 star rating, which I am reducing to 1 star to even out. Read my horror story to find out why.

Cons: This laptop worked great for a few weeks. Other than the aforementioned trackpad issues, I really had no qualms. That is, until my screen mysteriously vanished and went completely white. I called MSI and they immediately requested that I RMA it. Okay, that sucks, but whatever. I need this for work and I need it working.

They recommend you insure your package, and seeing this is an expensive laptop, I put insurance on it for that amount. Great, I'm out $64 to ship a 5 week old laptop back to the manufacturer.

They give me an estimated time frame of 15-25 business days, which I am NOT happy about. Again, I use this for work. However, to their credit, they repaired and dropped it back in the mail within 4 business days of receiving it, which I was happy about.

Fast forward to a week after receiving my laptop back from MSI, I get a SSD failure. GREAT. I have to RMA it AGAIN to MSI.

To be honest, I got so fed up with this that I put it on a shelf and didn't look at it for 2 months. Who has the time for this bologne? Certainly not me.

I finally get a moment to send an online request for assistance. After 2 weeks of no response, I finally just called, and they requested that I RMA it again. Greeeeat. This time I didn't ship my charger to them (they request that you send EVERYTHING back with it), which saved me $10 on the shipping cost, but still ran me $54. So $118 in shipping later, I've been able to use this laptop for about 6 weeks total since I purchased on release day.

What. A. Joke.

Other Thoughts: It's unfortunate, because I really enjoy using this laptop when it works. But I don't have the time to constantly RMA this thing. It's been dead longer than its been working, and thats pathetic.
