Seagate ST4000NC000 4TB 5900 RPM 64MB Cache SATA 6.0Gb/s 3.5
  • eggxpert iconEggXpert
  • Owned For: 1 week to 1 month

Pros: Extremely quiet
Gives off very little heat
Energy efficient
4TB

Cons: Expensive (but does have extra encryption/secure erase feature)
5900RPM

Other Thoughts: Perfect for archived storage as the 5900RPM is not the fastest though admittedly the overall throughput seemed perfectly adequate. So, yes, a fine large HDD for a NAS array. Photographers and video editors should be ecstatic. Recording of surveillance systems, etc, you get the idea.

I transferred some files and programs from one computer to another using this drive in sneaker net mode and had no issues with the data.

And security concerns are eased with the self encryption/decryption built in. I do however, wish Seagate would guarantee their enterprise drives for 5 years.

G.SKILL Trident X Series 8GB (2 x 4GB) 240-Pin DDR3 SDRAM DDR3 2400 (PC3 19200) Desktop Memory Model F3-2400C9D-8GTXD
  • Verified Owner
  • Owned For: 1 month to 1 year

Pros: Set to run 2400MHz @ 9-11-11-31-1T @ 1.65 volts in BIOS
Ran single module at a time through Memtest 5.01. Passed 5 passes each. Not a single error.

What more can I say?

Cons: XMP is set to run a 2T CR but since it runs a 1T CR it's not really a con.

Other Thoughts: This is SDRAM sweetness. As advertised.
After I'm done overclocking the CPU and am confident of stability, I have a strong hunch I'll be able to goose the Trident modules a bit more. :)

MSI Z87 MPOWER Max LGA 1150 Intel Z87 HDMI SATA 6Gb/s USB 3.0 ATX Extreme OC Flagship High Performance Triple CFX/ SLI Platform Intel Motherboard
  • Verified Owner
  • Owned For: 1 month to 1 year

Pros: First off, this is a beautiful board just to look at, then you realize how solid it is...no flex. It's laid out very cleanly...no doubt due to more and more operations on the CPU itself.
Everything worked out of the box
On-board debug LED
Clear CMOS button on outside
Click BIOS 4 UEFI interface
802.11 b/g/n WiFi & Bluetooth 4 support (I had no issues with LAN Ethernet either)
Takes full advantage on Intel 4th gen features (Haswell)
Live Update 5
Functions as advertised

Cons: So much going on I can't stop tinkering and gloating.

Other Thoughts: When updating the BIOS from M-Flash, make sure you select "BIOS and ME" otherwise you will hose the ME and loose functionality. Mine came with BIOS 1.2 and during the update process I inadvertantly selected just BIOS. My mistake, my fault. So...,

I called the MSI Tech Support Motherboard phone number 9am - 6pm (PST) and spoke with Warner who turned out to be friendly, professional and dedicated to troubleshooting and solving my issue. He didn't waste my time, understood the issue, got right to the point and fixed it, all while answering any questions I had along the way. It was top tier support from the get go. Very impressed.

Also, contrary to popular belief, it is recommended to install MoBo drivers from the disk that comes with your board and then updating to whatever is current.
