Team Color Turn 32GB USB 3.0 Flash Drive Model TG032GE902C3

5 out of 5 eggs Speed/cost value sweet spot 09/22/2014

This review is from: Team Color Turn 32GB USB 3.0 Flash Drive Model TG032GE902C3

Pros: Decent CrystalDiskMark tests, plenty quick for day to day file transfers.
Reasonably priced.

Cons: None to speak of.

Other Thoughts: Started buying these brown thumbs after opting for USB 3.0 flash and finding that Team Color tends to end up on sale more often than others. I own 2 (16G and 32G) and regularly use them to share videos and general sneaker net transfers. I'll buy more when I spot 'em on sale.

LG Black 16X BD-R 2X BD-RE 16X DVD+R 5X DVD-RAM 12X BD-ROM 4MB Cache SATA Blu-ray Burner WH16NS40

Pros: Good functionality, especially at this price point.

Cons: None so far, but I haven't put mine through a lot of stress.

Other Thoughts: Needed a BD burner to replace a USB 2.0 powered unit that apparently croaked due to power issues. Wanted something a lot more robust, so assembled this LG drive in a USB 3.0 5.25" enclosure. MUCH faster BD ripping than my old drive! Have not yet burnt a BD-RE but my Win7 system recognizes the blanks in this drive.

VANTEC ST-530S3-BK Aluminum 5.25

Pros: Well engineered unit, mostly extruded aluminum.
USB 3.0 comes in handy for BD data quantities.
Uses standard IEC power cord, not an outboard supply.

Cons: Uses oddball USB 3.0 A-A cable, would have preferred a standard A-B cable as used on my USB 3.0 HDD dock.
Fit and finish are OK when assembled correctly but the thick plastic covers used over PCBs and contacts make this difficult.
The power switch on the back of mine has absolutely no function; my enclosure is always on regardless of switch position. At least it failed in the right way, since it functions correctly I don't plan to pursue RMA, but docking an egg all the same.

Other Thoughts: I had a compact BD burner powered via USB 2.0 port. Mine died after relatively light use and I suspect this was due to power limitations. Assembled my own replacement with this enclosure and a standard 5.25" desktop BD burner. This assembly is MUCH faster than my old drive and I hope it lasts a lot longer.

This one is too big to fit in my laptop bag, but at least the package box is big enough to hold the assembled drive, and has a nice handle to boot.
