This review is from: VANTEC 3-Port FireWire 400 PCIe Host Card Model UGT-FW200
Pros: Simple to install, has 3 ports.
Other Thoughts: I purchased this item to continue using my Canopus ADVC110 to transfer videos from VHS to DVD. Once installed & connected, Win 7 had no trouble finding & installing the drivers for it. Immediately after installing it I transferred our Wedding video using my VHS and everything went flawlessly. I would highly recommend this to anyone still in need of a firewire connection port. I looked at the others, and most reviews I read from them were not favorable OR the price was too high. I didn't want to spend a lot of money, but still wanted at least one Firewire expansion card, this one has 3 (2 external & one Internal). I don't know if I'll ever use the internal one, but it's there if I need it, and as for the external one's well....two is better than one ...right?READ FULL REVIEW
Pros: Shiny, Quiet, Cheap
Cons: Post-flood GREEN drives from WD have gargage components. Buy a Black drive if you want "some" quality. Drive never did really work
Other Thoughts: I bought several of these about 3-4 years ago, and they worked fine, till my daughter accidentally sent one to the floor (after tripping on a cable I use when plugging the drive externally. So Got a post-flood replacement via warranty, and THAT ONE never did work right. Sometimes it would connect, sometimes not, well a couple of weeks ago, it started smoking from the Motherboard. I emailed WD to try to get it replaced, and here ten days later, NOTHING REPLIED, (when they claim to reply within a day or two). So needless to say this put a sour taste in my mouth for the Green drive family of western digital. My replacement drive they sent will run out of warranty soon, and I don't expect they'll contact me AT ALL at this point. BIG THUMBS DOWN TO YOU WESTERN DIGITAL!!!!!READ FULL REVIEW
Pros: quiet, runs cool
Cons: After I returned my 1st Green drive for warranty (due to an accidental drop from my 6 yr. old). Western Digital sent me a post-flood replacement drive (after I paid for the postage ($25.00), and the replacement drive they sent me NEVER really did work properly. I used it as an external drive to store ALL my home videos (total of 125 DVD's), which I stored in a Safety deposit box to keep it safe, and using it only to update videos to it. Anyway, sometimes the drive would spin, sometimes not, and would require several attempts of plugging it to my PC to get it to work, WELL Within 3 yrs "supposed" warranty of the replacemnt drive, it started smoking and now ALL my videos are trapped in the drive and are unobtainable. This experience put a sour taste in my mouth in buying ANY future GREEN drives. The point of this review is to warn YOU...Buy anything OTHER than a WD GREEN drive! Take it for what it's worth. I will probably still buy Western Digital, but will no longer purchase any of their green drives. I read too many review warning that they're junk compared to the Black drive, and after this experience, I BELIEVE THEM NOW.
Other Thoughts: Stick to Black drive, the post-flood green drives are garbageREAD FULL REVIEW
