UPS 3 Day Delivery PIPO M6 Pro 9.7 Inch Retina IPS HD Screen 2048x1536 Quad Core RK3188 1.6GHz Tablet PC Android 4.2 With GPS Receiver MID 2GB DDR3 RAM Bluetooth Dual Camera 5MP 2MP HDMI

Pros: I'm a software programmer, but a newby to tablets, so this was my first tablet. I purchased it for e-reader, having web/email access when traveling.
So overall an attractive tablet at a good price, with a reasonable uptodate Android 4.2 Jelly bean and WiFi access.
I installed K9-mail which was a dream to use. For web access chrome is workable but jerky.
The camera is good for me and tried the movie as well, and microphone appears adequate. Seems hard to manage the picture files.

Cons: Jerky screen, unreliable and requires resetting perhaps once a week. Occasionally just freezes - then need to use paperclip to reset the hardware to recover. There are hints in some discussion boards that there is a software update and it checks for an update every day and says system is up todate. The most strange is the slow jerkiness of the screen, and slow filling of a web page. With 2G of ram this shouldn't be a ram problem, I enabled system debugging and a visible process when slow screen updates is rknand_buffer. I pulled out the uSD chip incase access to that was a problem. I've pulled AVG App from the system to see if that was causing it.
The battery is relatively limited, and the way round this would be with an external battery pack, however the power is not 5V (its 9V) which means can't extend the battery life with an external rechargeable battery pack
Plugging an external USB stick with the provided cable didn't seem to work.
When changing between Screen Normal and HD mode requires reboot. With Screen in HD touch screen is even more unresponsive and slow to load. Maybe the processor is under-powered. Does get there eventually.

Other Thoughts: The all black surround makes it difficult to figure out the buttons, camera and power jack so labeled the ports.
In the last two weeks I purchased direct from google the newly released cellphone Nexus 5(Android 4.4 2G ram+dual fast processors) and its a dream. Smooth response. To give its due its screen is only 5"

Synology DS212J Diskless System DiskStation Budget-friendly 2-bay NAS Server for Small Office and Home Use

Pros: Excellent simple two disk/Raid NAS. I upgrade to Synology because of the comments on it and I agree its great compared to the Buffalo Linkstation QUAD that I purchased some years ago and the UI was no longer functional. On the DS212J I installed 500G Samsung HD502j that was in Linkstation Quad formatted the disk and copied over from the Linkstation the backup sets I had. it worked. Set it up for dual disks RAID. Then plugged in new 2T Western Digital Red WD20EFRX and it transferred over mirrored the data. Then put that as the main disk and plugged in a 2nd 2T disk and expanded the disk to 2T with the dual RAID function
Figuring out which HD where likely to work was the highest risk.
Also purchased a 2nd DS212J as they have so much data that for management I use one as a store on my intranetwork, and the other as a back up unit that only turns on for a couple of hours.
The web/intranet interface works for me - though still a learning curve to figure out how to manage the DS212K

Cons: The web interface with underlying linux has a lot of possibilities, but they don't tie together very well as a feature set at the UI level
A lot of possible applications also possible, and spent far too long on trying them and then booting them. The underlying processor is very slow. Needs carfeull thought as to what is really needed.

Other Thoughts: NAS backup. Guaranteeing and managing the large data sets is a time consuming headache. Raid is a must for hardware reliability. I had a decaying Buffalo Linkstation 4 disk quad, and the issue was managing an upgrade - and two different NAS units each with two disks gives more management opportunities that a single NAS.
DS212j: It could be really nice to have a section somewhere of what works easyly - app notes - though since there is such a range of Synology equipment it would be like minded people who would post their success stories about it

Pros: Ordered this last week and delivered by USPS from HK. Was able to register to follow its progress. Excellent.
Been learning it for a couple of hours - really nice so far.

Cons: Unfortunately its not multi-user enabled and this was one of the main reasons for wanting 4.2. It seems other android 4.2.2 tablets have it enabled it. Under settings its missing the Users menu. So wondering if there is rep that can say how to enable it. Thnks
