Nice Extras

Intel RAID Twenty-four port Expander Card RES2SV240
Intel RAID Twenty-four port Expander Card RES2SV240

Pros: Awesome performance and ability to mount nearly anywhere. The power connector on the top can be used instead of plugging the card into a slot, but using a slot is generally easier if one is available.

Cons: None thus far.

Overall Review: I would like to add that despite the newegg image showing only the card, the box it arrives in contains both a low profile and full height bracket (full height installed by default) and also comes with 6 SFF-8087 to SFF-8087 cables (2 short, 4 long) just as the Intel documentation says it should. Additionally, there are only 6 connectors on the card, there is nothing additional on the back. One or two connectors can be used to connect to your SAS card, which leaves either 4 or 5 connectors open for use. Using two of the connectors would only really be necessary if you're pushing the interface to its bandwidth limits/chaining cards together for ridiculous numbers of ports.

High Quality

SAMSUNG EcoGreen F4 ST2000DL004 2TB 32MB Cache SATA 3.0Gb/s 3.5" Internal Hard Drive Bare Drive
SAMSUNG EcoGreen F4 ST2000DL004 2TB 32MB Cache SATA 3.0Gb/s 3.5" Internal Hard Drive Bare Drive

Pros: Work beautifully with LSI MegaRaid 8888ELP, Intel ICH10R, and USB-SATA adapters. Very cool, quiet, and use much less power than my previous 1.5TB 7200rpm drives while providing better performance overall.

Cons: Had serious issues with some Marvell based controllers unless the drive's on-board cache was disabled. (tried rr622 and a few others including my motherboards eSATA controller) I was experiencing constant stuttering, timeouts, etc... With the on-board cache disabled the drives were reliable enough, but performance was still exceptionally bad.

Overall Review: I have 16 of these drives, and aside from having to update the drive firmware none of them have had any serious issues so far. Only time will tell, but they seem much more reliable than the other 2TB drives available. If anyone is wondering, the firmware updater is able to do many drives at once without issue. The whole process only took a few minutes.
