5 out of 5 eggs works great, filled my weak spots 12/13/2014

This review is from: ASUS RP-N53 Dual-Band Wireless-N600 Range Extender

Pros: Bought this is augment my ASUS RT-N65R router. My 5Ghz signal was really weak at the far end of the house having to pass through a floor and two walls. I named the SSIDs the same as my RT-N65U and the receiver picks the best signal. Went from barely a bar (20Mbs) to four bars (144Mbs). Farthest smart TV would routinely lose signal, but the RP-53 has remedied that.

Cons: couldn't get the setup to work using the Ethernet port. Had to just use the web route. Menu setup was initially slow to respond, but after firmware update, it sped up.

Other Thoughts: I had to place it in direct line of sight for it to register full signal strength. Could only get 3 of 4 bars on front panel going around a corner (distance was ~35 feet). I happy with the performance.

ASUS RT-N65R Dual-Band Wireless-N750 Gigabit Router

5 out of 5 eggs Hidden jewel !! 12/10/2014

This review is from: ASUS RT-N65R Dual-Band Wireless-N750 Gigabit Router

Pros: Fast
good range
guest network
USB ports (using only 2.0 devices though)

Cons: Can't use USB 3.0 devices, but 2.0 works great

Other Thoughts: This little router is awesome and a hidden jewel. ASUS did not appriciate that USB 3.0 devices can interfere with 2.4 Ghz if not proporly shielded. Several buyers had major 2.4 Ghz issues when they hooked up USB 3.0 devices. The RT-N65U got a lot of bad ratings for this. Because of all the bad ratings, this baby became ASUS's Edsel. As long as you only use USB 2.0 devices, it works wonderfully and I have an ASUS RT-56U. This has better range than the 56U and guest networks that the 56U lacks. At $19.95 after rebate, they are giving this this away. I'm running a Canon printer and a USB 2.0 SD card as my network drive (SAMBA). This this works for me as well as my RT-56U and has the guest networks I needed the 56U to have.
