Pros: Keyboard feels great. Love the texture of the lid and arm rest. Lid closes soft, yet firm, unlike other laptops in which they slam down by themselves. 740m card works fairly well, plays Planetside 2 with everything low at 23-27fps. The CPU is not maxed out while playing, which I was concerned would be the bottleneck being a U version.
Cons: Windows 8 of course. The ethernet port has a drop down latch to match the side profile, I hope it doesn't catch on anything and rip off. Trackpad is really terrible, the buttons are part of the touch surface, which makes it even worse. Screen resolution is fairly low, and was/is the primary concern for me. I would have gladly paid more to bump it up slightly to the next level.
Other Thoughts: Immediately installed my 128G SSD from a previous laptop without reformatting, and very surprisingly it worked well, and is super fast. Drivers for Windows 7 are sort of hard to find, but you can use some from the X550?? model's support page. Only a specific NVIDIA driver from ASUS worked for me. Others would install, but would have the yellow exclamation mark/bang in device manager. Though the NVIDIA card would work, you could not configure it through any of the normal control panel tools.
What really sold me is that it included a 1 year ADH warranty, which contributes significantly to the value. All in all, a very nice laptop. I would gladly pay more for a slight bump to the display resolution, and perhaps upgrade to a 745m card.
This review is from: TP-LINK TL-WR702N Wireless N150 Travel Router, Nano Size, Multifunction, 150Mbps
Pros: This little thing is great! It's useful in pretty much every networking environment you can think of. Currently using it in Client mode.
Cons: Fairly annoying to switch between functions. There really should be a multiple way hardware switch to move between functions.READ FULL REVIEW
This review is from: Tenda P200 Powerline Mini Adapter Kit Up to 200Mbps
Pros: Manual (on disc) is surprisingly thorough and translated fairly well.
Included utility is really not bad compared to the usual garbage, only crashed a few times in the past couple hours.
Cons: Random disconnects in the first 10 minutes it's plugged in. Fixes itself in ~30 seconds.
Firmware version available on the web site seems mismatched.
Other Thoughts: Messed with the utility and settings for hours. Ping to the router varies between 2 and >45ms, where on WiFi it was a steady 1-2ms.
I'm getting between 25 and 40mbit according to the utility, which is likely due to my older wiring. Still sad though since I can see it across the room.
Utility uses WinPcap, so hopefully you don't have software that uses an older version.
I really hope these disconnects sort themselves out, I simply can't use it if not.
Remember folks, 200mbit for powerline means all powerline devices, these behave as old school hubs.
