Pros: -Horizontal so drives don't flop around
-No problems with heat buildup
-Runs at actual USB 3.0 speeds
Other Thoughts: -Can take a few seconds for Windows to recognize the drive, but this depends on the drive.READ FULL REVIEW
Pros: This is an APEX DM-387 with a different bezel on the front.
Fan is quiet though larger than the included one on the Apex case.
Cons: Same cons as the Apex (though I did find a Startech card reader with bottom mount holes).
However, the front bezel sucks. It's super flimsy, broke the drive door fast (replaced pin with part of a toothpick). The biggest issue though is that the dimensions for the optical drive are way too thin. I used an older Plextor IDE (with adapter) and I had to carve out a lot of the plastic so that the drive tray could pop out. Did they even measure full size optical drives for this thing? It was ridiculous.
Other Thoughts: Just buy the Apex case. Same thing and no carving necessary. Haven't had it long enough to see if the PSU holds up but the same one on my Apex has been running for 3 years now.READ FULL REVIEW
This review is from: Rosewill RX355-U Aluminum 3.5" IDE USB 2.0 External Enclosure
Pros: Fan is removable, sturdily built, lights are not distracting, has an on/off switch, stand included, easy to remove screws (can use a coin) on back..
Cons: None so far, but I haven't had it a super long time.
Other Thoughts: I've seen enclosures for this price that where nowhere near as nice.
Hard drive tray is plastic. This isn't really a con as it seems very stable, but I prefer metal if possible. Again, it's been solid so far so I didn't remove an egg just for that.
Drive had bad interference without a case and has none at all with this case.
