ASUS Xonar D1 7.1 Channels 24-bit 192KHz PCI Interface Sound Card
  • Owned For: 1 day to 1 week

5 out of 5 eggs Does the job 06/27/2013

This review is from: ASUS Xonar D1 7.1 Channels 24-bit 192KHz PCI Interface Sound Card

Pros: Works as it should. The software is user-friendly and not buggy.

Cons: There is no color-coding on the output ports. Only tiny, barely legible etched descriptions (ie. front, side, sub, etc.) My surround speakers don't have descriptions on their inputs...only color coded. So I had to do some minor digging to determine which jack plugged in to which hole.

Sennheiser HD280 Pro Around the Ear DJ Headphones

5 out of 5 eggs Love them 11/23/2012

This review is from: Sennheiser HD280 Pro Around the Ear DJ Headphones

Pros: The sound is very true. These are ideal for audio editing / sound engineering. They are comfortable, are fairly rugged, and do a decent job of reducing ambient noise.

Cons: Ears get a little warm after a couple of hours of use.

Other Thoughts: If you want to use these headphones for amp'ed bass (ie. listening to rap), these are probably not for you. They seem to be intended to be for true sound, not exaggerated sound.

ASRock X79 Extreme6/GB LGA 2011 Intel X79 SATA 6Gb/s USB 3.0 ATX Intel Motherboard

2 out of 5 eggs Works in general, but has its quirks. 11/23/2012

This review is from: ASRock X79 Extreme6/GB LGA 2011 Intel X79 SATA 6Gb/s USB 3.0 ATX Intel Motherboard

Pros: It works fine, for the most part. The UEFI is pretty cool.

Cons: -The game-blaster card is not recognized when seated fully. I actually have to keep it unscrewed from the tower and pull it out a little just so it keeps in contact.

-Another issue with the board and included sound-card is when I try to connect front headphones, it sometimes freaks out and I lose sound completely (and have to restart.) But when it does work, an annoying center-window comes up (from the included software) letting me know that I plugged headphones in.

I tried running fan control through a 3rd party program, but it conflicted with the board's control, even when it was disabled.

Other Thoughts: The most important issue to me is that only 2 SATA3 connections have the ability to do "quick boot" and "fast storage". The problem is, that I wanted to use an SSD for my primary (OS) drive, and then but my secondary HD (media) drives in RAID. In this case, you have to sacrifice one ability or the other because there are not enough capable connections.
