Pros: just an addition to my review (4/24/2014)
Cons: hope there were light indicators to show capslock/num lock and scroll lock is active.
Other Thoughts: For the person that is saying that there is driver issue on the wireless adapter, I have not encountered this at all. in fact its pretty straight up worked out of the box. did all updates necessary to update to Windows 8.1 and did the updates after that and everything is still working as it should.
Most of the time its the users fault when there is a problem with windows OS. Maybe go use Mac? since everything is automatic with Macs that's why it's so easy to use them but it lacks on in depth control.
Anyways back to the topic, if there was any problem on the driver for the wireless adapter, that is certainly fixed coz as of this date of this review I have not encountered it at all.
This review is from: HP SimpleSave 1TB USB 2.0 3.5" External Hard Drive HPBAAD0010HBK-NHSN
Pros: it still works.
Other Thoughts: I wish there's a way to make it USB 3.0 xDREAD FULL REVIEW
was gonna say price, but now that 290 (non-x version) is 419bucks, this 290X should be at 519 instead of the 550-580bucks price tag that we are seeing.
Cons: stock cooler is "just" enough, see other thoughts.
Other Thoughts: Unfortunately the first sapphire 290X I bought had a problem, display port stopped showing display on my eyefinity set-up(This things happens, I just happen to have a "lemon").
Just ordered one more today and got a refund for my first one, but here's what I've experienced so far with the card.
BF4 on eyefinity triple monitor set-up at 6020x1080 resolution everything at Ultra except Anti-aliasing (turned it off and let the AMD Catalyst Control use its own AA) I was getting 45-60fps average and lowest dip on FPS I saw during intense screen activity is 32fps which is not bad at all for a single card performance, and when drivers mature and Mantle API hits on december that will only get better.
I don't know what these people saying that the fan on this thing is loud, but in my experience at 55% fan speed on uber mode is not even "that" audible, sure you can hear it but its more like a low tone hum.
I use a custom fan profile using MSI Afterburner and at 80C my fan will hit 100% fan speed, but it never reaches 80C, I go as high as 78C and at 95% fan speed this thing is still not as loud as the XFX HD6870 Core edition that I used back then, I did use a 7970 but that never seen much use with its stock blower style stock cooler coz I watercooled it right away so I compared it to the XFX 6870 that I have and the 6870 is what you call "Loud" while this blower style cooler in the 290X is sure audible but for me, IMO is not "Loud like a jet engine" at 100% fan speed.
Then again the noise issue depends on the user, it really depends on you what you consider loud and what you consider as tolerable noise.
Anyways if you are gonna buy this card it's injustice not to get atleast a aftermarket cooler for it (Arctic Accelero Xtreme III seems to be the popular choice on the forums for air coolers), in fact you would wanna use a custom water cooling block on this one to get the full potential of it. these cards can easily 1200/1500 under watercooling and at that performance even the upcoming GTX780Ti will have a hard time beating it even if it the 780Ti OC's good under watercooling.
