This review is from: Microsoft Windows Vista 64-Bit Business for System Builders Single Pack DVD
Pros: From disc insertion to desktop took about 15 minutes (WAY faster than installing XP), found drivers for every component in my system (including 6 USB devices, one of which was my printer) right off the bat (I love not having to install the motherboard drivers off the CD), tons of useful built-in features that aren't found in XP, supports up to 128 GB of RAM, gets better every month.
Cons: UAC is annoying (though easily disabled), software/hardware compatibility not as good as XP (has improved drastically over the last 1.5 years and continues to improve w/ each passing month), still requires some tweaks to get rid of some annoyances (i.e. slow shutdowns).
Other Thoughts: Vista has really turned around since it was released and it is now what I would consider Microsofts best operating system at the moment (and in the near future). I wouldn't consider anything else for a new computer. I know there's a lot of Vista hate out there, but, for the record, I own 4 computers; 1 Vista-based gaming PC, 1 Vista-based laptop, 1 OS X 10.5-based iMac, and 1 XP-based media computer (which used to be my main computer). Based on long-term personal experience, I still say Vista is the best out of all 3.READ FULL REVIEW
Pros: Fast, quiet, Nero 7 Essentials (no trialware that I'm aware of), supports bitsetting/booktype for ultimate compatibility, includes cable, SATA, cheap.
Other Thoughts: Lite-On has never let me down. Great drives, great feature set, and this one actually surprised me because of how quiet it was. Usually Lite-On drives are fairly loud, but this one ended up being quieter than the Pioneer unit I had used in a previous build (that I chose because of the reviews saying it was quiet).READ FULL REVIEW
Pros: Fast transfer rates, good capacity/price ratio, lots of cache, 5-year warranty, fairly quiet (it's not silent, but it's not very noisy, either).
Cons: It's a mechanical hard drive, so you can still tell when it's working.
Other Thoughts: I am really glad I got this drive. It offered up a decent amount of storage, good performance, and a good warranty for a cheap price. It isn't silent, but it isn't very noisy either. That said, it's easily the loudest component in my computer, though that's mostly because all my other components have sub-1000 RPM fans or passive cooling.READ FULL REVIEW
