This review is from: Intel Pentium G3258 Haswell Dual-Core 3.2GHz LGA 1150 Desktop Processor BX80646G3258
Cons: only 1333ddr3
Other Thoughts: replaced a g3420 with this in a mythtv server...perfect.
but on a asus h87i-plus(bios 2001) i was able to overclock to 4.0 Ghz stable (1.117) for 8 hours using mprime.
other speeds were not stavle to my liking... too hot, not stable etc.
when a think about it pragmatically it is a great overclock!... 25% better than an g3420.
a grat price for a 4 Ghz processor!
Pros: 3.5 ghz. hyperthreading...
pcie 3.0 graphics, on those motherboards that support it.
runs like half of a i7-4770!
runs amazingly with a gtx680 and a H87 motherboard.
saves you 100 dollars over a similiar i5.
Cons: can get hot.
people assume that it is weak... NOT.
Other Thoughts: it does seem counterintuitive that an i3-4330 has the same performance as i5, but on games it does! (of course with a strong graphics card, gtx 680 or higher)
my experience with this processor is in an asus h87i-plus(0905 bios) and a gigabyte h87n-wifi (f4 bios, and f7 bios) with EIST off.
when paired with a zotac gtx680amp!, power target 132%, and w/c, runs every game at great FPS on ultra, on high amazing!... (crysis, crysis3, tomb raider, bioshock: infinite, metro 2033)
make sure that the h87 bios is not the newest (asus 0905, gigabyte f4) because updating the bios to the "haswell update" can Possibly slow down your frame rate score in firestrike graphics test 1.
while the physics score is higher on a i5, the graphics score is the same on a i3-4330.
i am amazed at how this processor can compete with an i5-4690!
Pros: DC in. HDMI or Display port output. SPDIF out. 5 channel audio output.
4 SATA ports. include SATA power connector for use with DC in.
Bios fan control is well designed, has 4 levels, each fan level is completely controllable, will allow the fans to spin slow enough that the fan itself is the one that determine the rotation speed. (no more speed reduction adapters needed)
can select 3 or 4 pin fan control.
can select the landed page when entering the bios.
Cons: without overclocking options.
Other Thoughts: the DC in option on this will work with any 19v laptop power adapter that fits.
i am using an old HP charger, but the newer one that i tried did not fit because it had a "keyway" in the plug.
asrock need to fix the 4pin fan control, because as of the bios 1.0 the fan speed "chuggs". (this does not happen with the 3pin fan speed)
did i mention the the fan controller in the bios is awesome?..
