Black Box G1W-B
  • neweggOwned For: 1 week to 1 month

Pros: Small size, has built in display, easy to use mount.
Comes with mini-HDMI cable for TV viewing.
Comes with car adapter with a nice long cable.

Cons: Difficult to figure out. I had to tinker with it for a while to learn its quarks.

The main thing to note is you NEED a CLASS 4 SD card. It will get memory errors if you try to use anything else. I struggled with this one for several days till I found someone else comment online.

I'm not sure if it is supposed to have a built in battery, but for whatever reason, mine required the power to be connected at all times. It will shut off (after a few seconds, odd enough) if you disconnect the power, and with the plug being on the top of the camera, it is a little awkward having the cord loop back down to the car adapter.

Also, make sure you go through all the settings. Mine had auto-shutoff enabled by default.

Other Thoughts: Despite all the issues I had, now that I got them worked out, it works basically as intended. In all honesty, I would get another brand, but I am already invested with this one, so I did my best to make it work.

D-Link DCS-5029L HD Pan & Tilt Wi-Fi Camera

4 out of 5 eggs It is watching me... 02/02/2015

This review is from: D-Link DCS-5029L HD Pan & Tilt Wi-Fi Camera

Pros: - Full range of motion
- Wireless and Ethernet capable
- Night vision!
- Feels like sturdy construction

Cons: - You can see red coming from the infrared LEDs. It would have been nice if they were completely "invisible", otherwise making the camera truly hidden in the dark is a little more difficult.
- When viewing the camera live from a browser (On same network), maybe its just with the streaming, but the quality seems to suffer. I can't find any decent setting of resolution that is smooth. 1080 resolution, it looks like maybe 5 frames a second. 720 resolution about 10 FPS. Again, maybe its just because it is trying to stream the feed in real time, and maybe it would be smooth playback if I actually recorded instead, but at this point in time, I am generally disappointed in its quality.

Other Thoughts: Maybe I am just using it wrong, which is why I only deducted one egg, to give room for my ignorance. This is my first network camera I've played with, so I do hope it is just me being stupid.

G.SKILL Ripjaws Series 8GB (2 x 4GB) 240-Pin DDR3 SDRAM DDR3 1600 (PC3 12800) Desktop Memory Model F3-12800CL9D-8GBRL

Pros: Its RAM. WYSIWYG* applies in its fullest.

*What you see is what you get.

Kinda hard to write a review for something like this. I mean I ordered RAM, and I got RAM. Exactly what was expected. Price was good, albeit higher then it used to be a couple of years ago, I once got 16GB for $65, but considering the current average price of RAM these days, Its hard to complain with this particular set. As far as 8GB sets go, this one isn't bad at all.

Cons: No choice of colors. Would be cool if we could select from a range of colored heat spreaders, but what can you do...

Other Thoughts: Comes with a cool GSkill sticker. I love those kinds of stickers. Now it looks like my Nvidia Shield tablet has an i5 and some GSkill RAM in it. XD
