Nice Case, Minor Problems

SilverStone Temjin Series TJ08B-E Black Aluminum front panel, steel body Micro ATX Mini Tower Computer Case
SilverStone Temjin Series TJ08B-E Black Aluminum front panel, steel body Micro ATX Mini Tower Computer Case

Pros: Lightweight case, convenient cable routing pathways, open area on the motherboard tray for easy aftermarket CPU cooler bracket installation, the front fan is inaudible (to me) on low setting yet moves a respectable volume of air, the dust filter works well and is easy enough to remove for cleaning.

Cons: Due to its lightweight construction, the case panels (which basically all need to be removed in order to install the PC components) flex a lot and during reassembly I found a few screw holes that didn't line up very well with their corresponding thread holes in the case body. Not a huge deal, but it meant threading some of the screws in at a slight angle which is not ideal and shortens the lifespan of the threads. Ultimately this means that the case can only be taken apart so many times before some of the threads strip out. One of the front panel USB 3.0 ports has been suspect from day one but things that I plugged into it did work 98% of the time so I didn't spend much time troubleshooting it. Now (about a year later) it suddenly doesn't really work at all. The other port is just fine. I've yet to find out if Silverstone will sell me a replacement front panel board.

Overall Review: It's a respectable case. I'd buy another.

Not bad

XFX Radeon HD 6870 2GB GDDR5 PCI Express 2.1 x16 CrossFireX Support Video Card HD-687X-CNFC
XFX Radeon HD 6870 2GB GDDR5 PCI Express 2.1 x16 CrossFireX Support Video Card HD-687X-CNFC

Pros: It works! I bought this to breathe new life into my 5-year-old "gaming" rig. Never before have I been able to play games like Fallout New Vegas or Oblivion with all settings maxed. I like the dual mini-displayports.

Cons: It's loud. My previous double-width card had a much higher-quality squirrel-cage fan. I never heard it running. This thing howls just in Windows, and goes up drastically in pitch/volume while playing games if you don't manually throttle down the fan. It's very annoying - sounds like you're sitting next to a server. Even with the fan manually set at 25%, its too loud, and already it's developed some kind of annoying buzz that's usually reserved for fans that are a few years old and caked with dust.

Overall Review: Didn't get much time to take advantage of the so-called "rebate". By the time I received the card, it was too late to take advantage of it.

Mediocre at best

Linksys E3200 Wireless N High Performance Dual-Band Open Source Router IEEE 802.11a/b/g/n
Linksys E3200 Wireless N High Performance Dual-Band Open Source Router IEEE 802.11a/b/g/n

Pros: Gig Eth switch, no front-facing indicator lights, familiar web interface...

Cons: WiFi Protected Setup doesn't belong. Continually drops wireless connections to my Mac Book Pro (but none of my other devices), which worked just fine on the E3000 this unit replaced and works perfectly on other WiFi networks. REALLY SLOW web interface - average time to move from one page to the next is something north of 9 seconds. Again, never a problem with the E3000 that this unit replaced. Price? I wouldn't complain about price if this thing actually worked as expected.

Overall Review: I'm hoping it's just a flaky/defective unit and not indicative of the overall quality of newer Linksys products. Firmware isn't the issue - it's running the latest one from Linksys' site.
