Cooler Master Seidon 120M – All-In-One CPU Liquid Water Cooling System with 120mm Radiator and Fan

2 out of 5 eggs Closed loop was not a good tradeoff 02/04/2014

This review is from: Cooler Master Seidon 120M – All-In-One CPU Liquid Water Cooling System with 120mm Radiator and Fan

Pros: ## From the prospective of paying $30 after rebate/discounts ##

* Decent performance. Comparable to much larger air coolers.
* Cooler Master customer support is excellent.
*

Cons: * Serial number is on a perforated hanging tag on the Pump cable // can be lost if you're not careful. Kind of sucks.

* Removing a fan from the motherboard area means less cooling for other chips. VRMs for example, and thus less overclocking performance. I much prefer a high end top down cooler.

* Included fan is Loud. Especially because with a radiator, the fan is no longer on the motherboard, but instead on an external fan slot, and sound is less contained by the case.

* After 6 months my pump became even louder than the fan.

* More moving parts than a basic heatsink + fan means more to fail.

* Even though it didn't fail, noises pushed me to replace it.

Other Thoughts: I like a lot of other Cooler Master products. I don't blame the company, but seeing as I had so many noises and concerns, It was really a no brainier to replace it with a hyper 212.

I also wanted to sell my PC. Even if I was OK with random sounds, a buyer would have been quite wary.

After I replaced it I noticed there was no serial number. CM worked with me to find any possible way to recover the serial for RMA, but I eventually just gave up and threw it in the trash.

This is my 2nd build with closed loop. Overall, I have come to prefer air. For $35 you get very similar cooling in a hyper 212.. for more money, you can get a nicer Nocutua, which is not only less prone to failure but also comes with very nice fans.

This is important because it seems like all the closed loop, even the h100i, come with very loud fans. Yes you can get more CPU cooling from a dual rad like that, but your chipset temps may also spike versus a top down cooler, which is blowing air across the motherboard.

Tower coolers like the 212 don't really cool the motherboard either, but at least they are cheaper and probably more reliable. Simplicity is also rewarding.

I see no reason to go for another cheap Closed loop, nor the premium models.

meh..

2 out of 5 eggs Worked for some time, but never that well 01/25/2014

This review is from: Cooler Master Seidon 120M – All-In-One CPU Liquid Water Cooling System with 120mm Radiator and Fan

Pros: * Competitive performance
* Looks nice in case
* Can be cheap after MIR
* Excellent support site/system
* Works as a night light if you have a window on your case.
* Worth returning for warranty if you remember to store the packaging.

Cons: *Loud.
*Yet another product with the LED equivalent of high beams.

Other Thoughts: I bought it cheap, ~$15 after MIR and promo. It worked for a while but I ended up having to replace it.

I wasn't too picky until the pump started out noising the fan. After about 6 months, the pump would sporadically whirr and click..clickclickclick. NOISY.

I ended up ordering a hyper 212 evo to replace it. Much happier with that.

I don't have the packaging so I doubt I will get anything back for my effort.

I don't miss it.

EVGA 01G-P3-1466-KR GeForce GTX 560 (Fermi) DS SSC 1GB 256-bit GDDR5 PCI Express 2.0 x16 HDCP Ready SLI Support Video Card
  • Verified Owner
  • Owned For: 1 month to 1 year

Pros: * Card runs fast as advertised. Is notably faster than reference cards

*EVGA support. I was able to call and get my extended warranty (to qualify for step up) on the 36th day after purchase. They'll work with you!! $10 to extend to 5 year warranty.

Cons: *Not as effecient as the new 660 cards, but to be expected.

Otherwise has been an excellent purchase.

Other Thoughts: I don't always buy EVGA cards but 2/3 of my Nvidia cards have been EVGA.

I have never seen a more reliable brand or one that offers similar perks. I'm very happy to own these cards.
