3 out of 5 eggs Not as fast as advertised 03/07/2014

This review is from: SAMSUNG 840 EVO MZ-7TE120BW 2.5" 120GB SATA III TLC Internal Solid State Drive (SSD)

Pros: Installs like you would expect, no problems with OS.

Cons: Using HDTach as the test, on a 6GB/s SATA port it reads 400 MB/s empty but when you put data on the disk it drops to 210. My 2 year old 120GB Kingston on the same machine runs 300 when full of data (also 400 empty). Write is around 180 on both when writing huge video files.

1 out of 5 eggs Bloated 02/17/2013

This review is from: CyberLink PowerDVD 12 Standard

Pros: Plays video nicely once it gets to the playing part, but getting there is painful.

Cons: Like so many "mature" products the feature bloat makes the product slow and cumbersome. Have used older PowerDVD for years but Cyberlink has lost the mojo with this one. It does not find my video library on my XP servers, it crashes with a digital media server error and requires the task manager to fix. Did I mention the menus are really slow - like seconds to respond? Spinning the mouse wheel during playback makes it freeze for 10's of seconds. On the old versions it simply speeds up or slows down so you can skip over undesired parts. Forget cinema mode it is worthless.

Other Thoughts: Maybe this runs ok on a fast W7 machine with W7 servers. The only library it could find was on one of my W7 workstations. I just thought that maybe an upgrade would fix some of the older product's shortcomings - but not so. Not worth the upgrade even at the shell shocker price. It is painfully frustrating.

Pros: Does test out.

Cons: Timing is stated at 9-9-9-24, but I only get this if I turn on XMP in the bios. Default is 11-11-11-30. My other memory (different manufacturer) works at 9 in default mode. I guess you are out of luck if your motherboard doesn't do XMP.

Other Thoughts: Would buy something else next time because I think this should be stated in the details more clearly - it just says compatible with XMP, not that it is actually required to get the speed.
